Who else loves setting off fireworks on the 4th?
I can't stand going to the big shows. Sometimes the shows are great, sometimes they can be really disappointing, and there's the huge crowds you have to deal with.

I love lighting my own, with other people lighting theirs. I long for the stink of the sulfur, or those little burns you get on your finger when the fuse catches.

I like to wax nostalgic for those little fireworks I'd set off as a kid. The tanks that sputtered along, firing their "machine guns" and and their cannon before exploding. Or the chicken that lays the fireball "eggs." There were the "snakes", little black pellets that grew when lit and left little black telltale patches all over the driveway. The killer bees that go zooming off in completely unpredictable directions, same for the jumping jacks. Or the ground bloom flowers that mysteriously change color. They always used to be in chinese, with strange characters and colorful exotic graphics.

What are your favorites?

2. I used to love shooting bottle rockets up the street, and throwing
cherry bombs with my friends Lefty, Stumpy, Wingy and One-eye.

4. I was in a few bottle rocket wars as a teen.
Nobody got hurt though.

Those were fun memories.

7. I hate fireworks.......
They scare my dog to death. She has to go outside to pee occasionally and every time some idiot sets a round of them off.....I can hear dogs howling all over the neighborhood all so some idiots can have their fun trying not to blow thei fool hands off. (Present company excepted I am sure :P )

12. My dog is a nice dog.....
Edited on Wed Jun-29-05 02:53 PM by BooScout
She's blind and a diabetic and loud noises scare the heck out of her.

Maybe I should go put dog poo with Georgie Bush flags in all my neighbors yards who shoot off fireworks this year. HEE HEE}(

3. Roman candles and the ground flowers are favorites, as are tanks.
I prefer flash over boom.

5. Why wait for the 4th? Love to "blow stuff up". Love the ones that shoot
flaming balls way up in the air. Long lines of firecrackers that go on (or off) forever, pretty much anything that explodes.

6. No argument from me.
I used to spend the Junes and Julys of my summer vacations just horsing around with firecrackers. The 4th of July was just the big crescendo.

13. My parents were genetically programmed to never have any fun
and thus I never got to blow up anything or even have sparklers as a child. Thankfully Hubby indoctrinated me in the fun of explosives. I will admit I took to it like a duck to water.

11. You know, I was the same way at four or five...
I'd hear my grandmother warn my uncle to be careful or he'd blow his hand off, then he'd go and light fire works and it'd scare the hell out of me. I used to go and hide in the bedroom.

Now I can't get enough. Maybe because of the firework equivalent of training wheels.

10. Used to do it all the time
Unfortunately, it takes some driving out of Dallas to find a place where private fireworks are legal...

14. I really dig blowing things up on the 4th!
Unfortunately, things have been so dry around here that we're under a burn ban, and that means no aerial fireworks will be allowed in the county. Damn shame, 'cause I like the skyrockets.

We'll still do the old standbys, the sparklers, the smoke balls, the firecrackers, etc.

There are several fireworks stands close to my house, and we'll be shopping over the weekend.

When I was growing up, I used to have some friends whose parents owned a stand. It was grest fun in the summer. We'd break into their stock and have bottle rocket wars in the big pasture behind their house.

17. I love illegal fireworks
and pine for the days when Tijuana and Indian res' were nearby...

There is no joy on this earth greater than that of lighting a 6 foot bottle rocket out of a garbage can.

18. Jumping Jacks are fun
I like to throw them and try to get them to fly upwards. Zzzzziiiiiippppp! The fuses are also fun because sometimes they burn for 2 seconds and sometimes instantly.. Makes them exciting.

Honestly, I've outgrown the allure of fireworks for the most part (and I was a big pyromaniac as a kid), but I'll always love Jumping Jacks.

The little circular paper ones? They're way too unpredictable.

20. I'd love to shove those damn things
where'd they'd do the most good.

We spend every damned holiday trying to keep our house from burning down from the fireworks set off by the kids around here who think it's funny to aim them at people's roofs in a drought situation.
