Any A/V experts in the lounge? Need advice
I am looking for a new reciever / amplifier for my parents' sound system since their Denon is giving me weird feedback at random intervals. What's a good replacement?

2. Have to agree with the Denon
Bought my Denon receiver after my 1st wife & I split.

It's now been playing strong for 15 years and never a problem.

Come to think of it, even my 2nd marriage has been going strong now
for 9 years. Must be due to the Denon.

4. How much do they cost?
I guess I should've mentioned a price range - between $1000 and $2000.

5. I got mine for $800 (STR-DA2ES)
and I'd put it up against a 1- or 2-thousand dollar rig any day. B-)

8. Listen to it first, of course

some say that it doesn't have as warm a sound as some more expensive recievers.

"bullshit," I say. "Buy speakers with flatter response and things won't sound so fucking tinny!" But everyone has their preferences. For the record I listen through Polk Audio RT55i mains, with an SVS PB-10 subwoofer (my center and surround speakers are also Polk Audios).

The DA2 may be a discontinued model, I did get it about 3 years ago. But the whole ES line is worth a serious look, IMHO.

9. I'm going to go head down to my local Good Guys tomorrow
And check it out. I'll be sure to bring some CDs with me.

I'm not sure what speakers my parents have, though.
