No disappointments. It was actually pretty darn scary - a little too scary for my 7-year old. We were expecting something a bit more like "Independence Day". It's a very visceral, real-feeling film that stays somewhat faithful to the book, with some nods to the 1950's version. And Cruise's acting is even relatively convincing.
I give it an A - and I don't give those out lightly...

I agree-- it is a very visceral experience. I strongly recommend seeing it in a theater with a good THX certified sound system. The sound is as important as the visuals in this movie.
