HELP---- DirtyPinkoCommie... or other.... Linux disaster
apparent HD crap out...

re-booting with FDD looks normal until...

hda2: bad access: block=2, count=2
end_request: I/O error, ev 03:02 (hda), sector 2
EXT3-fs: unable to read superblock
mount" error 22 mounting ext3
pivotroot" pivot_root(/sysroot,/sysroot/initrd} failed; 2
unmount /initrd/proc failed: 2
Freeing unused kernel memory: 136k freed
Kernal panix: No init found. Try passing init=option to kernel.

okay, so I tried booting thus...

linux init

no luck


Help?

Go to /etc

Edit fstab

Look for the HD mount point entry and put a semicolon at the start of the line ( ; ) to remark it out. Reboot, system should be fine - sans attempting to mount the konked out drive.

That works usually for secondary drives but, in order to edit squat, you will need to boot from a rescue disc AND also do a volume check... http://www.google.com/search?biw=1117&hl=en&q=linux+volume+disk+check&btnG=Google+Search

2. You need to fsck hda2.
Can you boot into something with a linux 1? If not, you need to get some kind of linux rescue disk in there. There may be that on your install CDs or DVD.

no luck... trying to find FC install disks now.... don't know why knoppix will not boot... always did on this box before.

6. I am a newbie...
...so I can't offer any help. I haven't tried Knoppix, but I can vouch for Ubuntu being the most stable and trouble-free distro I've used so far.
