Hurricane Dennis has four "eyes"
. . . Well, at least that's what it looks like to me, according to this infrared satellite photo on the NOAA website:):

This is a first for me. Don't think I've ever seen a hurricane that had a four-"eye" formation.

Looks as if it may be heading for Florida. :scared:

1. When does hurricane season usually start?
Isn't it a bit early for this?

Meteorology has always fascinated me. Got The Weather Channel, accuweather.com and NOAA all bookmarked, LOL.

21. Check this out:
"By the time the next RECON reaches Dennis this afternoon - I fully expect them to report back a solid CAT 1 hurricane - and a well defined eye structure. We are closely reaching the point where a sudden, rapid intensification could occur -- but that has not been seen, nor can it be reliably predicted. The water temps ahead of Dennis are in the mid 80's, and there are pockets of very warm, 88degF water temps near portions of the Cuban coast, close to where Dennis is expected to traverse. This, combined with upper level wind shear that is far below the seasonal average will all support significant intensification over the next 2-3 days. The upper level high pressure has become firmly established atop Dennis -- with good outflow in all quadrants. However, max outflow speeds are still averaging about 35kts -- these speeds will have to increase if Dennis is to become a major hurricane."

If this monster becomes a CAT 1 heading for the Gulf Coast (or Florida), we're looking at a MAJOR, major catastrophic situation here. :scared:

6. Hurricane season started in the first week in June.
This is a record season, to have four named storms by this point in the season, though.

I'm not used to seeing this much activity this early in the summer.

18. Yes, it's a record breaker.
Very intense season ahead of us. I think 1933 held the earlier record, but Dennis being named broke that record by two days.
