Can someone explain "Napoleon Dynamite" to me?
I just didn't think it was funny at all. Did I miss something or is it simply a matter of personal taste?

2. Pedro..
He was cool, in a quiet, reserved to his fate way. I just didn't get the movie, though.

as a "coming of age" movie. I liked it when he did his dance number.

I have no idea why people like it. I kept thinking "ok, it's going to get good soon" and it never did.

9. I really tried to enjoy it, but I just couldn't
It was pointless, and just mildly funny in a fart-joke sort of way. I usually love quirky films, but not that one.

10. It's the best thing to ever happen to Preston, Idaho
http://www.prestonidaho.org

It was misleading that it was all filmed in July. Preston is a bit colder than that mot of the year.

11. I'm sorry there weren't enough explosions, car crashes, breasts...
computer hacking scenes, people breaking into bank vaults, black side characters getting killed in the first reel, talking animals, and car chases to satisfy the typical American movie goer.

13. I think you have to be the right age
Preteens and teens liked it because they are living a version of it.

I am in my mid-thirtys and liked it because it reminded me of all the dorky moments in high school. Besides -- the dance scene with the flowers in the burger box, "Forever Young" on the stereo, and the couples dancing at arm's length is searingly painful and funny when I remember I went to dances just like that.

15. Your right about the age thing....
A classic coming of age movie transcends generations...

Napolean D was not a classic film....

We went to see it, there were about 20 people in the theatre. I can't remember if there was one moment when everyone was laughing....

A few grin and chuckles but otherwise,

22. That's exactly what I said.
I just knew the writers had to be around my age because I recognized so much in their behavior, mannerisms, speech and dress.

18. Not at all, I completely disagree.
I am not a teenager, nor do I have a teenage mind. I'm 35, very intelligent and I LOVE Napoleon Dynamite. I bought the dvd of it to make me laugh when I've had a bad day.

You're free to dislike the movie, because it is a matter of personal taste. But insulting those who do enjoy the movie as weak-minded and immature is not cool.

I find that people who are around my age (35), went to public school, and were not in the most popular groups often enjoy the movie quite a bit. The characters speak, dress and behave the way teens did in our schools during that time. They act like the hormonal, moody, awkward, confused, attention-starved teens that they are. It's certainly better than watching the "teens" on most t.v. shows that have snappy, rapid-fire conversations about subjects only 30-somethings talk about.

funny stuff.
What's a liger?

You know, like nunchaku skills, bow hunting skills, computer hacking skills.
Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills.

Do the chickens have large talons?

Napoleon, you know we can't afford the fun pack.
What do you think money grows on trees in this family?
Take it back.
And get some Pampers for you and your brother while you're at it.

Gosh!

23. Can't really explain. You either get it or you don't.
It's a matter of personal taste, age (it's mostly for teens or 30-somethings based on the situations, speech, dress, mannerisms, etc.), mood, and whether or not you went to a high school like that.

I personally loved it, but understand why others wouldn't get it.

25. Dear God, I love that movie.
I've got it on DVD. Had to have it. It has a very quiet humor, in my opinion. I think once people started to love it, it got overhyped, then people saw it and expected....I don't know, they expected too much and were disappointed. I was lucky enough to see it when it came out in the theaters and I knew NOTHING about it. I giggled a few times.

Then I rented it several weeks later and laughed harder. Everytime I saw it, I caught something else I didn't catch the previous time and laughed MORE.

"You think anyone's gonna take a roundhouse to the face wearing THESE bad boys? Fuggedaboutit."

It's so completely quotable. ANd has become a campy cult kind of movie now.

I think I'll pop it in.

27. Part of its appeal to me was its sweet-hearrtedness.
The force behind it was sweet and affirming.
Expecting a teen fart flick, I was surprised
at not only how funny it was but how wonderful.
Delightful comic creation, hilarious characters.
I went in ready to reject and ended up captivated.
