Listening to the scanner...

a fight has broken out at a house up the highway from where I live. A crowbar is involved. Every deputy in the county is headed there.

12. How does one get a scanner?

I've wanted to get one for some time, but haven't got a clue how to get one.

During the LA Riots, a friend had one. We were able to tell a lot about what was going on outside of our little safety unit by listening to the scanner.

Or look on Ebay. Mine is a California Highway Patrol scanner that I bought on EBay after the CHP went to a different type of scanner. Works like a charm.

I think it's cool to know what's going on for our safety.

Once at my old apt., we heard helicopters overheard for well over 30 mins. When we called the police dept., we found out that someone had committed a robbery--and that we shouldn't go outside, if we could avoid it. :wtf: What if we hadn't called?!?

Othertimes, I think it would just be cool to be nosy... :rofl:

Heck, not 6 months ago, I had one brother shot and kill the other brother across the street and 3 houses down. :-(

Sitting a watching TV the police cars flying down the street and lights flashing and ambulances.

It was a sad situation.

I haven't heard anything else on the scanner, though, so it must have settled down.

That is truly sad. :-(

The killing across the street was one brother strung out on meth, trying to shake down the elderly mom for more money. :-( I feel so sorry for the surviving brother. :hug:

by a unknown woman wearing a flowered dress.

Tonight is slow, not a lot going on.

20. How do you guys know what they are talking about?

Don't they usually call in what is going on by code? Do you have a code book? Or do they just plainly state what the emergency/crime is?
