Do you let politics define who you are?
I would say I am definitely a lefty, but I am unsure if that actually "defines" who I am.

1. It doesn't define me.
It is part of who I am, but it is not all of who I am. Not even close.

2. No. Not at all.
Who I am defines my politics.

6. my life defines my politics.
my beliefs on racisim, discrimination, justice, war, ect ect ect... shape my view on politics, and therefore have me labeled as such... but my politics define nothing of my personality.

9. In a very general way
I think your politics are determined by your "world-view" and hence your whole lifestyle is equally determined by that

10. No...when you're gay, that luxury is denied to you.
You are defined early on by the straight world, and spend the rest of your life dealing with that definition. I think I would be a leftist under any circumstances, but abhorrence of the Repukes and their fundamentalist "Christian" buddies makes my political choice crystal-clear. At least liberals don't want to kill me.

11. Interesting question....there are many accurate responses that can be
made, but I suppose the most realistic would be: I grew up in a somewhat Progressive household, post-WWII. That war produced so many Progressives after it was seen in real-time just how easy it is for humanity to fall into the depths of hell.

Back then, the GOP was nothing like this Band of Baboons that has become the GOP, and the Dem's had the luxury of just having pulled us out of the Depression and WWII.

Then came the Great Commie Threat and Civil Rights, the GOP painted the D's as 'Commies'...Civil Rights, a thorny issue at best, helped to define the D's and R's. I went directly over to the Civil Rights advocate side.

Getting to the point...these and many other things got me on the Progressive route. When the GOP went to the Band of Baboons, I vowed I would never vote GOP again; I would rather burst into flames in the polling place, than cast a vote for a present day R! It was a process...like most Americans, I considered myself a 'moderate' in most things, open to differing views...as the GOP moved right over the edge of reality, I discarded all moderation, and took up the fight.

I have spent a lifetime fighting for the Rights and Privileges of all people; I have stood in the ranks of sexual equality, base-line Civil Rights actions, 'radical' activities to ensure all people are treated the same and I will always be in the struggle. I am who I am...a definitive Progressive that stands up to the tyranny that the GOP has become.....:)
