14. Pasta purists say this should never be done, but I agree...
that if the cooking times are the same, go ahead. Even if one says cook 11 minutes and the other 7, I'd start the 11 minute ones then add the 7 after 4 minutes.

I've known Italians who wouldn't do this for ANYTHING but IMO, it's not worth another trip to the store.

20. normally I would only mix pastas with the same cooking time
but I opted not to make even one trip to the store today ... so if you say it works ... I remember that next time I have a little of one and not enough of another

26. I've done it before, but who am I?
If I were serving a dinner to guests, I'd probably cook them separately and serve them in their own dish, but for just my own family I've mixed before and it works. It's not beautiful or artsy, but if you cook them for the time they are supposed to cook, it works out.

Julia Child might have had a problem with that but my standards are lower. :-)

6. Isn't there a passage in Deuteronomy?
about mixing pasta? I think you can get stoned for that.

You can at my house, anyway...

18. Thank you Feeney......Oh are you Irish??? If you are it figures
that you would think it was OK to mix the two different pastas....besides.....Italians really stay away from elbows...unless they are being kissed.

13. Cook them separately, and let everyone have their choice
You'll have the same amount and it will look like you worked twice as hard ... because you did.

25. I do it all the time
just make sure you cook the rigs about half way before you add the elbows or you'll end up with overdone elbows...

The only reason I do it is because I really, really hate shopping and refuse to go to store if low on one thing and not the other....
