I just re-read War of the Worlds by H.G.
I havn't seen the movie,but will definately go. In the book the Martians kill a bunch of civilians to scare the population of London. The army comes in,everyone is confidant the army will easily defeat them. Out comes a different weapon that wipes them out. Panic ensues,the author makes observations of how quickly a normal society collapses with just two attacks.

about colonialism. How would you like it if a bunch of rude strangers with weapons better than yours came and started shooting up the place?

3. Yeah it crossed my mind quickly.
I read it over two decades ago,and again this week-end,and the parallels were eerie.
