1. Maybe good unless eaten in excess?

I mean it can't be all that good for you -- but if your hungry they can hit the spot!

13. The secret is
cook them according to the directions, but then drain all the water, mix in a pat of butter and one-third to one-half the seasonings packet.

Far less salt, same great taste.

Edited on Thu Jul-07-05 08:19 PM by Lisa
eat the noodles with lemon juice, cilantro, sliced tomatoes, black pepper, a dash of soy sauce or ginger, maybe a bit of garlic -- and if you like, sliced boiled egg and/or cold chicken.

12. Alright occaisionally, but should not be your main food source
From what I have heard from people unfortunate to know this first hand, a diet consisting mainly of Ramen noodles will leave you malnourished and make you look like a concentration camp inmate if you started out as a healthy weighted young adult.

16. Got to be the devil's pasta
I washed out more pans, from teenagers making Top Raman, in my life than I care to remember. At $2.60 a case from Win-co, I always had some around for the kids....unfortunately half the neighborhood also snacked at our house, and most of them had the munchies. I have this love hate relationship with the Satan noodles.

17. You're right
it's quick and easy, and if you boil the seasoning in the boiling water and pluck the noodles out of the broth, it's not as salty, either. Actually, I went on a Ramen noodle binge once for a week and lost two pounds.

18. Sometimes I really crave the damned things! YUM!!
In a way I could eat them for every meal. Mostly, I like to boil them, and then pour off the water and just sprinkle the packet of seasoning on the noodles.

But, for the times when I went me a bowl of pho or something udon-like, nothing beats Ramen!

Cook the noodles, strain the noodles and put them in the bowl, crack an egg into them, get the broth a boiling, pour it over the noodles and egg so it cooks the egg, add some scallions, maybe some umoboko, or shredded meats, some spinach or other greens, and anything else, and there is one mighty fine bowl of pho-like dinner.

21. In Hawai'i, ramen is considered cuisine
it bears no relation whatever to the dried-up ten-for-a-buck objects described, hereabouts known as "dry saimin" (saimin is another type of local noodle soup).

Actual Japan-style ramen is served at noodle shops throughout the islands. The Sapporo (miso) style is most popular, followed closely by shoyu ramen. (Digression: I once had a crossword clue "Salty sauce", three letters, blank-O-blank. My first thought was "Hmmm, shoyu doesn't fit." :-) )

Come to think of it, I really have no explanation for why any type of hot soup would be so popular in the tropics, other than perhaps that local people start to complain about the cold* when it gets below 70 F.

27. If you...
... fix them up they can be ok.

Sometimes I cook them with a can of soup. Others I add a few ounces of meat from yesterday's dinner. Carrots or peeled broccoli stalks go great with them.

But you have to be pretty damn hungry to eat them as directed :)

Ramen noodles are not the devil's pasta. :P

Like government cheese, ramen noodles keep people fed in times of economic disaster.

30. all three actually.
I get them for 9 cents a pack at Albertson's or Kroger, and mix up the varieties. Our favorites are the hot chili flavored ones, and pork.

I like to dump frozen oriental veggies in them, or frozen brocolli florets, spinach, french cut green beans. Bits of leftover meat too.

Sometimes I add a drop or two of sesame oil, some hot pepper flakes, a tsp of vinegar and a beaten egg..Viola!!! ersatz hot and sour soup.

I had not thought of combining them with other soups, sounds interesting.

We eat 'em all the time. Guess we go to Hell's kitchen for that. We doctor them up pretty extensively though. Heck..even our pet rabbits like the noodles. Throw away that seasoning packet though....that's death in tin foil.
