Flamebait for the night.
Instead of cooking veal, I took my daughter to a baseball game tonight. This offers an abundance of topics for which you can flame me:

1. I still have $3 of veal in the fridge, which comes at the expense of cruelty to calves, unlike cheese which is acceptable to eat and discuss because they only use rennet which is produced via cruelty to calves.

2. After all the damn meat threads this afternoon in the Lounge, I had the nerve not to follow through with using any of the recipe suggestions in the thread that kicked it off.

3. It's inappropriate to take young children to baseball games and puncture the bubble of serenity for those who lead childfree lives.

4. We shared a hot dog at the game, which is a product of brutality to our four legged friends.

5. Before the game, there was a moment of silence followed by a prayer for the victims of today's tragedy in London. While I thought the Christian prayer was inappropriate given the diversity of the crowd (atheists, Jews, etc.), I will still continue to financially support the organization by going to games in the future.

6. During the aforementioned moment of silence, my daughter said "oh, no, the baseball game is gone!" before I could convince her to be quiet.

7. I'm a shitty father for keeping my little girl up so late.

8. Professional sports is a tool in class warfare used by the power elite to suppress dissent by making the proletariat more complacent. (Opiate of the Masses v. 2.0 if you will.) This makes me a tool for participating.

9. I'm happy to see Shea Hillenbrand make the all-star team even though he probably doesn't deserve to be on it.

10. I think it's really funny that the Jays are only a game behind the Yankees in the standings even though their total team salary is about 4 times less than that of the Yankees.

I'm sorry to say that we took public transportation to and from the game, so you can't pin peak oil problems on me.

Flame away. Bonus points for suggesting I kill and eat my daughter.

3. Organic beef made from cows who lived in an open pasture?
I think they award partial credit for that.

4. I hope so.
But I can't be certain, as progdad bought it. He did buy it at Trader Joe's, so there is a good chance....

7. From a foodie standpoint, it's my understanding that it tastes better...
which reminds me:

12. By going to the baseball game, I missed going to the organic farmer's market where I could have purchased such beef. So any meat consumed by my family until next Thursday will likely be the product of factory farms.

2. Since you'd still have the veal...
I'd recommend doing parmigiana or marsala with it (Italians know how to make cruelty taste GOOD).

5. Well the thing is, I think the expiration date on it might be tomorrow...
which makes me hesitant to cook it so that makes

11. I waste food.

8. That's a sell-by date...
not an expiration date, usually. Refrigerated meat should be good for at least a few days after that. No sense letting it go to waste, after all.

Besides, veal is tasty.

11. Or...
You could just cook bad veal and feed it to your daughter.
In the flamebait sweepstakes I think wasting your daughter beats wasting food hands down. Of course, if you don't eat her after poisoning her, you still get the "wasting food" points and effectively win the game - although you'll probably never make it to the major leagues.

Khash.

14. I'd make the majors by wasting my daughter then taking her to the game
à la Weekend at Bernies.

But considering I love her more than anything else in the universe, it probably wouldn't be worth it.

6. Such debauchery
Wasting perfectly good meat and eating mystery meat found in the hot dog!

You really should kill and eat your daughter, since you have been so irresponsible by exposing her to such filth.

10. Well it was only $2.64 Cdn in veal...
which is probably half the price of the baseball park hotdog.

15. Yup.
The Rogers Centre (aka "The Dome Previously Known as Skydome") is a pretty soulless place to watch a game, but they're fielding a good team this year and the fans were actually getting into it tonight.

Oh yeah:

13. The game was played on artificial turf.

14. Being the AL, it used the DH rule.

My team's home is the Hubert H Humphrey Metrodome. Good name, bad ballpark.

And the DH and artificial turf YUK.

12. Excellent post. Did you also "bait wildlife" today?
(That's what one fanatic's term for giving the birsd in your back yard some seeds.)

If so, you must , I said MUST, be doubly ashamed for all your other transgressions.

And, furthermore, you're being a "salarist" by discussing how much the baseball players are paid, and using that as a comparison to other teams! For shame!

28. Oh, no, you don't get the point. The anti-"wildlife baiters" say
that by "baiting wildlife" (feeding the birds), you're making them vulnerable to the cats that cat owners aren't responsible enough to keep out of other people's yards.

Sheesh.

34. Ouch!
Quite a chronicle. We had a similar experience with our longhair. The summer we moved into our new house we had a ten year rain and water in the basement. Had to move all the furniture and pull up the carpets and put box fans around to dry things out. One of the grills fell off the back of one of the box fans.

We woke up at 5:00 the next morning to a thump and the most pathetic mewl I've ever heard. Ran downstairs to find Tilly motionless in a puddle. Feared the worst until she woke up really pissed.

davsand wrapped her up in a towel and drove her to the vet. She'd busted her upper jaw, and lost both her upper incisors, but she pulled through. Not quite as feisty as before, though...

35. That's much worse than Boogerhead's plight!
He didn't get anything broken, just massive tissue damage in his mouth. He couldn't close it or drink water, and we had to switch to canned food. And give him antibiotics. It's been three weeks, and he's back on dry food and keeping himself clean. We still need to go back to the vet, though.

25. Here we go
1) Shame on you for not at least having the decency to make the best of that calf's sacrifice. If you let that meat spoil you're worse than Hitler. If you eat it, you are marginally better than Hitler, as you are just as cruel but slightly less wasteful than you'd otherwise be.

2) Making all that trouble for nothing, you turd!

3) You ruined some hardworking person's ability to enjoy the game. It is because of child-bringers like you that they sell beer in smaller portions and women no longer can remove their shirts and dance around topless in the cheap seats as they did in the mid-80s (Actually saw that as a kid, was deeply saddened when it wasn't like that anymore when I turned 21)

4)Killing animals and poisoning your kid with rat parts. Terrible

More later, I'm getting tired
