No baseball or softball in Olympics

In 2012 in London, no baseball or softball. Yet they have curling. I guess it is time to stick it to the US again.

The Olympics suck. It is the playground for tyrants and royalty (and corporations).

1. So what, we suck at baseball now anyway.
Americans don't field good teams anymore. Last year we didn't even make the medal round. We sucked.

Softball on the other hand... that's too bad.

4. I hear ya
If they don't play softball, I'm not watching.
Last year they were complaining that the American women were too tough to beat. That is what competition is. You challenge the other countries to step it up, not gripe because the US is so good.
If you didn't get a chance to watch the USA Softball Team in action, you missed perfection in motion.
Where do I boycott?

7. A shame, but I can understand it
Softball just isnt played much outside the US, and the focus of the Olympics is on sports that have worldwide appeal.

3. thats a shame about softball
the US women's team despite being so dominant always appeared to be a great group of women, they had great team chemistry

5. Making way for more popular "sports" like skateboarding
I keed, I keed.

Really, though, the Olympics should abolish all sports in which the winner is determined by judges.

8. x2
I wholeheartedly agree. Back to basics. Running, Jumping, Vaulting, Throwing, etc. No gymnastics, no dancing, no subjective artsy shit. Just athletics with clear winners and losers.

6. Curling is a winter sport
The summer Olympics are pretty unwieldy - they have so many sports. It's not the same problem in the Winter Games.

11. Why isn't basketball a winter sport?
There is no excuse why golf is not an Olympic sport.

13. So it is agreed - all judged events are out
Also, any event that requires a costume is placed into the dustbin of history. Boxing should have ring card girls also.

16.  Figure skating and gymnastics are two of the most popular
Olympic sports - I don't see either going away any time soon despite the flaws.

17. Replace gymtastics with either...
foxy boxing or jello wrestling. Watch ratings shoot through the roof.

18. Like the baseball competitions ever were interesting.
Even the inherent tediousness(for a non-us watcher) of the sport aside: baseball is a sport played in just three countries - seriously at least. The olympic competition wasn't even taken seriously by the athletes from these countries.

Venezuela, Mexico, Panama, Cuba, US, Dominican Republic, Japan, South Korea, Canada, Australia. All these places have had major leagers and have some involvement at least on a club level.
