The bars are NOT the gay community! The best you can hope for from that scene is a lot of attitude made to make you feel very small and worthless and occassionally a random blowjob.

My suggestion still stands. Get involved with working for gay kids or marriage equality or protections for gay/lesbian soldiers - anywhere gay and lesbian people get together. Join the fucking Gay Darts League or something! You'll still run into a lot of assholes, but you'll also meet a lot of interesting, nice people.
