Anyone know where to find a vintage style gown on these here internets?
I'm looking for a 1930's or 40's evening gown to where as my wedding dress in October. I've looked at costumes shops and I've combed the web and I'm having a hard time finding a dress that isn't a gazillion dollars and is in my size. I'm looking for a Jean Harlow type of number, a simple but elegant bias cut dress. Does any one know of any websites out there that makes these types of gowns? I'm not looking for a 70 year old gown per say, but one in that style. It's getting down to the wire and I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks

18. You are welcome - I hope you find what you're looking for
or even something close - a good seamstress/tailor will be able to take the skirt from one and combine with the sleeve of another and with the neckline of another, etc. It may take more patterns, but it will give you a larger selection.

2. Check Ebay
My sister has bought many fine vintage 40s dresses from ebay. I can find out from her the names of the dealers she has bought from.

7. That would be fantastic.
I tried combing ebay a while ago and I haven't been back since. I've never used ebay before. It's hard finding these types of dresses that aren't made for a 20 inch waist.

11. I'm not sure who that is.
And thanks sweetheart. I really want to wear something different and spacial. I've been to several bridal salons and the dresses are ridiculous. And what they expect you to pay for em? no effing way.

21. Not vintage bridal, that's lovely web site though.
I'd be thrilled with a really classy evening gown from that period.

16. Google - "Vintage Swing Dance Clothes"
and you might get lucky. I found this one that looks promising - http://jabotsboutique.com/womensdept.html

Also Try E-bay.

I swing dance regularly, but I gave up finding vintage clothes that fit. There's just too little out there. I started making my own when I want something special.

Good Luck!

22. You could contact
a local theatre that builds their own costumes and see if they have any good cutter/drapers they have on their hire list that they could recommend that have are currently laid off. A talented cutter/draper can build your dress from a picture or drawing.

26. I bought dress online for a 40's themed engagement party
I believe the store was in Maine - they were VERY nice, and the dress was perfect. It was a tough search, because it seems there weren't a lot of 5'11" women back then. Can I remember the name? Of course not!

But there are a lot of places that are similar here: http://www.tias.com/stores/dir/bycat/Vintage_Clothing.shtml
