MTV & VH1 to rerun 10 hrs. of Live 8...WITHOUT commercials, tomorrow

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - After a drubbing from critics, MTV and VH1 will rerun 10 hours of coverage of the Live 8 concert events without commercials on Saturday.

VH1 will carry the first five hours from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., while MTV will carry the second leg from 3-8 p.m.

MTV was roundly assailed by pundits and critics for the frequent commercial breaks and other interruptions during its live coverage of the July 2 concerts.

"In the wake of our coverage, our viewers have resoundingly told us online they want to see full performances from their favorite artists," MTV Networks Music Group president Van Toffler said Thursday.

1. Why does a network entitled, MUSIC television have such
problems with actually showing music? That's ridiculous. Do they seriously think that people tune in to see their vee jays and commentators, TALK about the performances? Versus actually allowing people to SEE and HEAR the performances uninterrupted?

While I am pleased to hear that they are doing this now, It's sad that it took critics 'assailing them' before they considered this.

2. Gee, you *think*? Van Toffler sounds very, very stupid.
First of all, most of us have already seen it. If their viewers are telling them *online* what they wanted to see, chances are they found the telecast *online*.

Screw MTV and their not showing music selves.

3. I hear you. Last night my husband says he wants to
bring back that old commercial--I want my MTV! Except he would say, "Bring back MY MTV!" Meaning the MTV of our youth--when they actually played MUSIC.

Now the show is nothing more than lame reality shows...
