Let's talk about Spinal Tap / Mighty Wind!

I just watched again a few days ago. You think I'd remember the names of the guys in the band -- Nigel...? who else?

What's the funniest scene?

Which songs do you like?



Has anyone seen A Mighty Wind? Did you like it as well or better than ST?

A confession -- I really like the Mitch and Mickey songs. I think melodies are pretty, and their harmonies are pretty good. THey sing "one More Time," "Ballad of Bobby and June," "When your next to me."{/ul}

By the way, if you get the soundtrack to the movie, there is a version of the Rolling Stones "Start Me Up" sung by the Folksmen in bluegrass fashion. Absolutely hilarious. You can listen to a clip of it off of Amazon.

who, like so many others, blew up towards the end was Mick Shrimpton. He was replaced in Japan by Joe "Mamma" Besser.

The keyboard dude was Viv Savage. He could be a gnome in your garden.

3. Both are funny, but "Spinal Tap" is a classic!!

In my opinion, "Spinal Tap" is one of the funniest movies ever. I could watch it over and over. So many things I missed the first time I watched it...very clever.

"Mighty Wind" is funny, too -- but a little more subdued than "Spinal Tap." Christopher Guest nailed the folk music "cliches" with his characters. The funniest scene for me was when Ed Begley Jr. was throwing Yiddish phrases into his conversation.

When I heard I got these ticket to the Folksmen, I let out a geshreeyeh, and I'm running with my friend... running around like a vilde chaye, right into the theater, in the front row! 4. Just saw Spinal Tap for the first time a few days ago

I think the scene that had me laughing the hardest was when they were playing the show in front of what appeared to be a very conservative crowd and they lauched into "Sex Farm". I was about dying of laughter watching the crowd react to those lyrics.

8. A tossup between Stonehenge and airport security.

Those little dudes dancing around the little Stonehenge just kills me. :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:

I love them both. Spinal Tap has more of an edge to it, so I watch it when I'm in the mood for an evil cackle kind of movie. A Mighty Wind is more of a giggle movie. If you like Mitch and Mickey, you might appreciate Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara doing "God Loves the Terrier" in Best in Show. They really do have a nice sound.

12. Loved Mighty Wind......

It satirized the Folk Music era wonderfully.

"Never Did No Rambling (After All)" was near perfect parody of a certain
sort of song from that time.

15. LIVE Spinal Tap and Folksmen is where it's at.

I've got various live recordings of Tap from when the movie first came out and various reunion tours. The late 90s/early 00s arrangement of "Sex Farm" is priceless. I believe I have a show where Elvis Costello joined them onstage for "All The Way Home". Of course, the Folksmen actually opened for them for a bunch of shows.

I was a big folk fan the the 60's and had a band of my own. The gags hit pretty close to home. And the music is good.

If you have the DVD, check out the deleted scene called Bluesaroo. Side-splitting stuff.

INCREDIBLE!

I'm a musician, and own the anniversary DVD with the extra 1.5 hours of footage. And unfortunately I've lived a few scenes very similar to those in the movie (HELLO CLEVELAND!!!!).
