Andy asked me to deliver the eulogy at his funeral "if things didn't work out."

I told him, literally, to go fuck himself for thinking like that. I said the words: "Go fuck yourself." I scolded him for being so down, so defeatist.

But I promised.

I don't know what his people want. I will obviously bend to their wishes one way or the other.

But someone is going to pay for making me keep that promise.

He will say something so amazing that I and everyone else in that hall will weep. He is a powerful writer and a powerful speaker. I just hope he can get through it without crying. Then again, it really doesn't matter if he does since no one else will.

Andy was a good man and he picked an equally good man to eulogize him.

They had every right to disagree with Andy's politics and issues, but to attack him in such a personal and hateful manner was beyond the pale.
