so I disagree with you for the most part. While nothing touches the first season, the second one comes very close. The comedy never left the show for me but there was a minor drop in quality in the third season. The disconnected deaths and dead people not interacting with the characters is what I missed the most and has recently returned.
Nate is the central character in the show and since the third season he has changed greatly, more than any other character without a doubt.
The show certainly has become more of a drama than the dark comedy it started out as. Two or three writers were brought on board for season three and they are now gone, I believe. The writing staff seems smaller than in the past but the core group and two other talented writers are doing a good job with this season.
I hope you stick with this show. Season four comes out on DVD on August 23, two days after the series finale. I'm not sure when season five will be out.
