I think it was spacegirl (???) that was real concerned last night.

1. Their power may be off.
When Charlie blew in we lost our power for two days and our cable for three weeks.

2. I would sure like to hear how folks in Pensacola made out.
I've friends who were e-mailing as late as 10am but aren't online now. And all circuits are busy when you try to call. They must have lost power by now.

4. I was thinking about everyone when I watched the ....
Weather Channel this afternoon. Thought we had lost Jim Cantore for a while. (I always liked him. Not hard to look at either!)

5. We lost power for seven hours where I am
Edited on Sun Jul-10-05 10:22 PM by southlandshari
East/central Alabama, not too far from Montgomery. But all in all, much lighter than anyone expected, even on the coast. I just got a PM from another DUer who is in the Florida panhandle, and the report there was much less damage than expected.

Since my electricity just came back on, I don't really know what happened - I gather the hurricane weakened considerably just before making landfall? Thank God - Ivan was awful, and we all thought this was going to be far worse.

Did someone say Jim Cantore? Hubba, hubba! I'm going to be watching a LOT more Weather Channel from here on out, that's for sure!

7. Hey Shari, where are you?
I grew up in Decatur and have spent a good many years in Montevallo and Tuscaloosa since then.

I'm in Panama City, and we dodged the bullet this time. It was a very anxious few days--lots of time securing stuff outdoors and stocking up on food and water and propane and filling up the tub and tracking the storm online and all that. It was scary, but we dodged the bullet here--turned out to be nowhere near as bad as Ivan.

In all honesty, the most upsetting thing about the storm was coming here and finding some moral degenerates who claim to be liberals rejoicing in it. I honestly cannot fathom how anyone could do that. Maybe Mommy and Daddy just did a real good job of sheltering their pampered little asses all their lives. Anyone who has ever known genuine fear--or an actual disaster--could never wish them on someone else.

10. Yes, that's exactly what I'm talking about.
You know the ones, the people who are doing their damnedest to make this site nothing more than a mirror image of Freak Republic. I've had enough of them.

do on a subject (you have to have the most extreme, EXTREME, left position) then you are by definition a disgusting freeper. I believe I am seeing more and more moderate democrats dropping off these boards and more and more drunken teenagers and super -duper ultra leftists coming here. There is less and less rational discussion and more and more flaming, swearing, screaming, name-calling, etc. If you don't agree with them on some sub-point of any issue, you're a troll from FR.

14. Yeah, the netkooks and keyboard cowboys are taking over.
I can remember when it was pretty easy to have a reasonable, informative discussion here. Now it seems that more and more of us are just interested in getting the first kneejerk slam in, rather than actually discussing anything. I used to learn a lot at DU--now I just get frustrated at what the place is becoming.

9. Alert, alert, alert.
I've seen some of those posts - you know what to do on them, right friends? That stuff is abhorrent. I appreciate the help you all provide in identifying that kind of stuff and alerting on it.

Years in Tuscaloosa, eh? I'm in that "other" college town round these parts. You know where I mean!

So glad you guys are ok down there. Been thinking about all my LA and gulf coast DU friends all day!

I just spent an hour or so sitting out by the bay watching and whitecaps and enjoying the wind. It's beautiful out there tonight.

6. There's gonna be an extreme amount of rainfall still

So we gotta watch out for everybody inland, too. The rainfall forecasts are crazy.
