as soon as we overcome that tiny little virgin/whore complex issue, and then transcend that slightly bothersome "selfless service to mankind" thingy, we're wayyy cool.

8. Yeah, I married two clowns 'cuz I thought I could fix 'em. But these f***s
were so flawed that they were beyond all hope. And I've taken in every stray member of my family as well. Even my Dad who took off on us when we were kids and half my brothers and sisters got adopted out. But I let him live with me for seven years after he got old and sick.

Virgos are seriouly nuts, but we're also not afraid of anything. And we're smart. And loyal (to a fault).

And as for the virgin/whore thing, I've learned not to sweat the small stuff.

44. Wrong, my fellow Virgo!
Virgos are seriouly nuts, but we're also not afraid of anything.

We're not nuts -- only too idealistic, as we keep believing people will live up to our exacting standards, and then we're always disappointed when they fai--

Oops. Wait. You're right. Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results every time is nuts.

OK, you got me there. But I'll still disagree on "not afraid of anything." Maybe you've got Leo or Gemini rising somewhere, but me, I'm afraid of just about everything -- or, more accurately, I worry about everything. Worry eats me alive.

Still, even the biggest worriers among us often surprise ourselves during confrontations. It doesn't take much thought to battle an opponent (the battle is almost always verbal), because synthesis of ideas comes so naturally and quickly to most of us.

And we're smart. And loyal (to a fault).

And intensely self-critical, paradoxically critical of others yet quite forgiving, prone to holding all our stress in our bellies (who else has so many ulcers and reproductive problems?), insanely phobic about our health (you show me a Virgo's medicine cabinet, and I'll show you a stock of cures to rival the local health-food store), obsessive (how many times do YOU preview a post before submitting it?), and excellent judges of human nature (we make great shrinks, authors, and nurses)... although when smitten, our fabulous judgment often flies right out the window. (We're also very susceptible to flattery, because we're naturally self-effacing, and it's sometimes difficult for us to understand why anyone could like us in "that way.")

And as for the virgin/whore thing, I've learned not to sweat the small stuff.

As for the virgin/whore thing, it's one of our greatest assets. Most of us are (once you get our motors running) the biggest kinkazoids on the planet, rivaling only Scorpios -- except we're not as forward about it as Scorps are. (I would have said we rival Saggitarians in the sex department, but we're not generally as promiscuous - LOL - and most of us are NOT compelled to be surrounded by people 24/7).

What's so great about the virgin/whore thing is that we come across like Carmelite nuns -- which leads to big surprises for our partners. So we often have a sense of mystery that is very alluring to those who like a challenge... and the payoff, I am told, is worth it. LOL

Oh, yeah -- and almost all Virgos have eyes that can bore right through a person.

Sign me,
9/18/61, Cancer rising; third phase of Virgo (artistic slob, as opposed to mathematical neat freak)

133. But of course! ;)
Never mind all that textbook garbage about the cold, unemotional, aloof stuff; high analytical function and impeccable spelling do not preclude an irrepressible kink factor.

(However, I have observed that Virgos often become voracious readers of sex manuals long before that first sexual experience -- not for the titillation*, but simply because we want to make sure we're doing it right, even the first time out! LOL)

Frankly, I think it must have been a Virgo who first promoted the cold, sexless image to throw everybody else off.

The result is a lot of bad press. But it does help us keep the rest of 'em guessing!

* P.S. We can also use words like "titillation" without giggling. Base humor and slapstick do little for most of us; we're generally more impressed and delighted by genuine cleverness... and humor that requires some sort of "back knowledge." We like anything that reminds us we're smart. ;) (Which is why all-night Trivial Pursuit tournaments and yelling at Alex Trebek's occasional mispronunciation of a place name are such attractive pastimes.)

It's the reason I avoid Virgos like the bloody plague. I've had two Virgos absolutely ruin my life. Yes, we all make our own choices and I'm responsible for my own actions and feelings but--those assholes should be too. Not like they ever acknowledged their wrongdoing in those matters. I'm really impressed that as a Virgo, you can admit to a fault. I've never met one who could.

33. I've been lucky in some ways
Introspection takes time which I have plenty of. Also for a while I was friends with a another Virgo as I saw things in his behavior that I didn't like I became more aware of my own actions and that was the beginning of making conscious choices to alter some of the negative traits of a Virgo.

I will thank you for the complement as it isn't always easy to face ones own short comings much less admit them to someone else.

52. amazing
i second that. Virgo can be the meanest scorpion-bait. But the spirit of community improving, altruism, the perfection, loyalty and not least promiscuity makes them very attractive. People you would like to side with to make the world in range a better place, finding sanctuary with such counterparts. But virgos really do not discuss their faults (not the ones i met at least).

Virgos have been people i have felt attracted to like a mosquito to a candlelight. Amazing people, very thought consuming, but mostly well hidden in their soullabyrints. No easy coming out and most certainly no easy way in.

Whats a fox among hens is a scorpion among virgos

134. "virgos really do not discuss their faults"
Trust me, it's because we're so painfully aware of them already. Combine that constantly-critical little voice in one's head with a deeply sensitive nature, and the result is often a rock-hard shell of self-protection. (Thus, the "cold and aloof" stereotype.)

I can't speak for everyone, but I swing from one extreme to the other: Either I'll self-flagellate myself publicly for my faults (to the point that my loved ones would probably like to kill me just to shut me up), or I won't talk about my failings at all -- because I just don't want to risk provoking someone else to confirm that I'm as bad as all that.

And yeah, true -- no easy way in... and maybe no way out at all. LOL

... apart from the discussion part... scorpios prefer to listen rather than to unveil from themselves. Well one got claws and sting to crack or sting thought the nutshell...but it can be really hard. earth holds water, water washes earth, fertilizing each other (in various senses).

143. Virgos & Scorpios are so much alike that it's often difficult
to tell them apart.

if you want to see intensity that works to perfection (if it works at all) put a Virgo and a Scorpio together ... after reaching the correct understanding that we both always right we make an unshakable team ... Virgos & Scorpios are a powerful combo that's hard to beat!

146. well telling apart one can
Virgos (in my experience at least) are more reserved to the outside. While Virgo is like a castle which is locked or open. one clearly gets either ones in or out. a scorpio is more like a dune one crawls up. it's more reachable and you get the other to talk with the risk of beeing reached. A scorpio will hit deep grounds either his/her own or the others but surly after letting to other speak/crawl first. A virgo wouldn't make their inner to a "playfield" in conversation. not in my experience at least.

While the backdeep has many similarities the front is quite different though. (ime)

147. as close as two signs can be in personality type
I see Scorpios as being more volatile than Virgos. It has been my experience that a Scorpio's passion will flair more quickly than a Virgo. I believe that Virgos are more likely behave as solidly but more coldly and with reason in addition to passion.

I firmly believe that neither a Scorpio nor a Virgo will allow another to fully know them until there is a great deal of trust.

so yes we do project our personalities slightly different but we are very much alike inside

148. depends
With Virgos i have mixed experience with this. I'd sign Scorpios are impulsive anytime though. Theres no substitute to the surge of emotions flowing through every fiber of the body.

Motto "The extreme (emotions) is the pulse of life"

I firmly believe they never will reveal all of themselves neither virgo nor scorp (nor anyone for that matter).

How can you know that? Virgins have all kinds of birthstones, I am sure. We were not all born in the same month. And if we are so awesome, how come nobody wants to sleep with us?
What's that? Vir-GOs.

59. Yes way.
Not only is my sun sign Virgo, I got Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Uranus and Pluto all in Virgo. More Virgo than Virgo, that's me.

Years ago, a bunch of us in college were talking about astrology, and my buddy actually said, "I wish I was a Virgo, they're all sex fiends!" I hadn't gotten started on that yet, so there was a brief uncomfortable pause, then I started laughing.

You may not be surprised at this: the fellow was a Sagittarius. His response was, "Huh? What'd I say?"

:hi:

I wonder if parrots/birds are a Virgo thing?

I've found that I'm growing into my sign now...gosh, when you're 18, who wants to be diligent, hardworking, particular, responsible, etc? But I was, and tried very hard to identify with the fire in my horoscope (Mercury, Venus and Mars in Leo, Ascendant in Aries, Sun, Mercury and Venus in the 5th, Moon in the 9th), but I still felt more attuned to earth.

As I've aged, I've incorporated that fire more...and yet, the earth has become more positive, such as feeling passionate about environmental issues, issues of health, and awareness of the incredible beauty and complexity of the natural world. :-)

I wasn't aware of any special connection between birds and Virgos but the Virgos I've known are very nurturing therefore a perfect bird caretaker.

I'm very happy to know that you're becoming attuned with the Earth ... we all need to be more aware of environmental issues as I believe that one person at a time we can make a big difference

from one Virgo to another ... being diligent, hardworking, particular and responsible are all good things but don't forget to have fun while you're going about your days.

because I agree with you about the intelligence of parrots. Frodo amazes me with the way she communicates what she wants - when I'm walking with her on my hand she will actually flap her wings pulling me in the direction she wants to go. She'll delightfully toss things for humans to retrieve for her. After all  we're here to serve our loved ones if they're feather-heads!

that was very nice of you to say. :pals:

I am pretty aloof and remote though, I just live my life pretty much inside my own head, and that is to me the defining trait of aspie-ness.

As someone observed, the world is full of "dog people:" social critters who care about belonging to the pack, finding their place in it and fitting in and being liked by everyone. We Aspies are cats. We couldn't care less about the pack and go our own way, doing what interests us for reasons of our own. And it's cool to be a cat. But it can be awfully hard sometimes in a world run by and for dogs.

longer to have me so I could have sapphires for my birthstone!

No offense to Carolina Peridot, who I immediately spotted as a Virgo because, really, does anyone like peridots unless they're Virgos? They just seem to clash with so much.

I'm getting to like them (peridots) now but it's taken decades. Other people get emeralds, opals, amethysts, garnets, even diamonds -- ooh, and turquoise, too, as their birthstone -- why couldn't we August-born have, say, lapis lazuli?

It's cool that there are peridot-colored clothes now, though.

when I was a kid I always thought of it as pea green, like pea soup, though sparklier.

They ARE cheaper than sapphires, for sure.

(Probably 'cause nobody wants them.)

I'll stop, I promise! I just wondered if anyone else felt cheated in the birthstone department.

114. Hi Joan!
:hi: Things are .... going. We don't have everything even finalized with the buying yet, so definitely not moving, yet. We're hoping by the end of August. My mom called tonight trying to convince us to go stay with her instead, because of 'the area' that the house is in... long story. </rant> Let's just say, no, to that one. Keep your fingers crossed, though, please!

Not that I'm *expecting* problems, per se, but more like having a hard time believing how easily things have gone, so far... you know?

115. psst ... being so sure about anything is a Virgo trait.
It's not like we know it all ... we just like to think do and we're usually right.:)

123. another trait ~ being too modest about our accomplishments
what the heck  although a pat on the back may feel good the real reward to us is the satisfaction of knowing that we've always given it our best shot
