5. Let's see...
I play guitar, bass, dulcimer, harmonica, and really bad piano. When I was in bands for a living I started out playing bass, but then switched to guitar.

I've just got an el cheapo Mann acoustic guitar now; sounds incredible for how banged up it is, though; and an First Act mini electric that I use for slide and fake lap-steel guitar when I'm recording..

9. Blues harp! Suzuki Promasters through a Shure Green Bullet mic...
Edited on Sun Jul-10-05 10:36 PM by KrazyKat
that has a vintage element, for that crackly Chicago sound. Also just purchased a 1960s JT-30 mic. I play through a 1994 Fender Tweed Pro Junior amp, with the tubes adjusted for harp. It's all the amp I need. If I gig, it just gets miced through the PA.
Second harp of choice: Bushman Delta Frost. I have complete key runs of Promasters and Delta Frosts. :bounce:

Also have two acoustic guitars -- a 1997 Martin 00028-EC (early serial number, and a sweet tone) and a Gibson SJ-200 Montana Gold, which is a thunder-box.

My wife plays guitar, too (left handed and upside down, a true "goofy fingers"), and she has a Kurzweil keyboard as well. :hi:

15. A blues harp player! Awesome
I love the crackly, harmonica through the amp sound. So those are the harmonicas you recommend? I usually play Marine Band in a crossharp style (if the band is in G, I play a C harp for example). I am not really good at playing straight harp ( G in a G song) nor have I figured out how to use a Chromatic Harmonica

I am a huge fan of blues (I am listening to the excellent harp of Sonny Terry in a live Terry/McGhee recording from Montreal). Any pointers for a mediocre harp player? I really want to get a raw chicago sound--anything from Little Walter and Junior Wells to Paul Butterfield (my favorite harmonica player)

16. Kicking around the apartment are:
1 violin, c. 1815, my "student" violin (needs some work)
1 violin, c. 1985
1 viola, c. 1980
I used to be ok on violin, Mozart sonatas weren't a problem, played violin in an amateur orchestra, viola as needed. That was 15 years ago.

1 Soloette travel guitar (classical)
1 La Patrie classical guitar (student guitar)
1 Hippner Smallman-model classical, cedar/Hond. rosewood (for sale)
1 LaCroix classical, spruce/pau ferro
1 Russian 11-string (well, 7-string + 4 bourdons)
1 Yacopi 8-string guitar
2 partially made Hauser guitars

Sheet music for the classicals and Russian, I have; if anybody has a clue where to get 8-string music ...

1 1890s bowl-back mandolin

1 Yamaha keyboard

2 plastic recorders, 1 soprano and 1 alto

A Yamaha P-60 digital piano, a Bundy II crapo alto sax, a cheapo acoustic guitar, a flute, and a trumpet. I play them all with varying degrees of skill, with the piano sounding the best and the trumpet being a clear violation of the Geneva Convention protocols against torture.

It was called the "Midiman 2044." Worked great, until I switched to XP. They apparently stopped making drivers past Window 2K. So, what did I spend $160 for, exactly? Bastards.

37. I only play the piano.
Edited on Mon Jul-11-05 11:05 AM by SmokingJacket
It's just a little spinet -- I'm dying for a better piano.

But the other musicians in our family play Wurlitzer organ, synthesizers (don't ask me the details on those), two student violins, two ukeleles, a clarinet, a concertina, mandolin, harmonicas, kazoos, a drum machine, congas, recorders, a Gibson acoustic guitar, a twelve-string guitar, a Strat, a Tele (maybe?), a Mustang electric guitar, a hollow-body jazz guitar, some kind of electric bass, a larrabee (sp) parlor guitar (I think, unless it got sold), and a banjo.

Oh, yeah, and a cowbell.

Our house is only 1100 sq feet. No we don't have room for a dining room table.

And my kid wants to take up string bass!!!!!!

1978 Gibson Les Paul Firebrand (with a custom pickguard. I had two made. Les Paul has the other one on his Firebrand.)
1971 Gretsch "Super Chet"
1985 Taylor 812ce Grand Concert
1960 Gibson L-48 archtop with add-on DeArmond pickup.
1989 Hohner S-10 guitar. It's a Steinberger knockoff that's set up like a Les Paul with 2 Humbuckers. It's extremely compact and travels well.
1962 Fender Pro-Reverb amp.

All dates are approximate.

40. Oh geez, where to start
Edited on Mon Jul-11-05 11:21 AM by no name no slogan
My main guitars:
* 2001 Córdoba F30 Flamenco nylon-string guitar
* 90s Yamaha electric 12-string
* 90s much-abused Fender Mexi Strat (currently in pieces, under repair)
* 2005 Godin Freeway SA guitar synth controller/electric guitar
* 2003 Godin Multiac ACS solidbody nylon-string guitar/guitar synth controller
* An old Peavey bass of some sort
* a bunch of rackmout/outboard guitar effects, including an Alesis MidiVerb, Behringer V-Amp Pro, a couple graphic EQs, an Aphex parametric EQ, and a rackmount vocoder (forgot the brand name).
* Yamaha AGStomp acoustic guitar effects processor

Amps:
Roland JC-120 Jazz Chorus
Fender M-80 2-12" combo amp
Behringer ACX1000 acoustic guitar amp

Keys & Synth gear:
* Roland GR-33 Guitar Synthesizer
* Casio WK-1600 Keyboard/Workstation
* Red Sound Dark Star Mk II Analog synth module
* Roland SH-32 Analog synth module
* Korg Poly-61 pre-MIDI analog synth
* Crumar Performer String synthesizer
* Crumar Organizer II dual-manual drawbar organ (sounds and weighs as much as a Hammond B-3, but at a fraction of the price!)
* Boss SP-202 Dr. Sample
* Alesis HR-16 drum machine
* Alesis MMT-8 sequencer
* Yamaha QY-100 Sound Module/Sequencer/Arranger
* A couple of MIDI keyboard controllers for the above
(lots of hardware-- I've never gotten used to softsynths and hard disc recording, and I probably never will)

Recording and PA gear:
* an old copy of Cubase 5 running on a crappy 1999-era Compaq laptop
* an even older Tascam 4-track casette recorder
* Fostex MR-8 digital multitrack recorder
* JBL studio monitors
* M-Audio powered studio monitors
* a few PA amps (one for studio monitors, one for live monitors, one for live sound)
* several PA speakers (mostly 10" and 12", nothing big)
* a pair of cheap studio condensor microphones, and four live vocal microphones.

Misc.
* various stands for all the above
* an old Yamaha alto saxophone
* several harmonicas in many different keys, including a few diatonic minor harps (very "eastern" sounding, quite cool!)

There's probably more I'll find when I clean out my house and studio later this month, but that's all I can recall off the top of my head.

And yes, I know how to play ALL of it! :D

ON EDIT: Oh, almost forgot: one pair of LP bongos-- which I don't play very well, but that's why they created drum machines :dunce:

Then there are three Alvarez guitars: a Classical I bought in 1978, a cutaway I bought in 86 ( both acoustic/electric), and an acoustic I bought my daughter a few years ago. I also own a couple of Fenders on loan and a strat copy out with one of the kids. There are another few cheap guitars left here by visitors.

There is an old Kelsey 16 Channel mixing board in the living room and various components of a PA, also a set of Sonor drums and a bass here most of the time - though bass's vary depending on the bassist visiting...

And now I leave DU to do something productive, like noodle on one of those instruments.....

46. Yes, you got me. I got this scam from "The Spanish Prisoner."
Yeah, I really need to start playing every day again. I've really been a poor excuse for a musician.
