Anchovies, kippers, or sardines?

What's your favorite canned fish product?

1. Beach Cliff Fish Steaks with jalapeños

Disgustifying but delicious.

2. Tuna. But not technically canned. I like the stuff in the pouches.

Pouched. Yeah, "pouched" tuna. I don't eat the stuff in the cans now that they have the pouches.

3. Tuna or Salmon and nothing else. And I mean nothing.

As long as they're mixed with something else, like Caesar salad dressing.

It's great when it doesnt overpower. subtlety is key here.

I wondered before about the connection between garum and sardine-filled puttanesca, to no avail.

Garum was probably the most important food of the ancient Roman world.

However I believe that, for most people in the Greek/Roman world using fish sauce was exactly like adding pure salt to food today, it was a very basic ordinary product that everyone used. The distinction between the cheapest fish sauce and one made with a particular type of fish was, I believe, largely in the mind of the purchaser. The product was a salty pungent brine that enhanced the flavour of the other ingredients in a dish- no more no less. The degree of pungency is the distinction that matters in defining the various sauces and that was determined by the amount of blood and intestines that were added as well as the fish used.

10. It's a long story,but blame my godmother.

She teased me about fish guts in sardines when I was little,and I get nauseous to this day when I see canned sardines.
