What TV show that was canceled do you really miss?
I miss "That's Life" about a 32 yr.old women,Lydia Delucca (Heather Paige Kent), who breaks off her engagement to go back to college. Her parents were played by Ellen Burstyn and Paul Sorvino. The network kept moving it to a different night, but I would find it and watch. Very disappointed when it got canceled. I don't watch that much on network TV because it's hard to find something good.

11. Best TV show EVER!!!
I weep to this day and expect to weep every day until eternity passes away - even as I watch every episode about once a month.

Good news is it sounds more and more likely that some straight to DVD Futurama "movies" will be produced! :) :) :)

Wow. Those are the only TV show remake movie I'm likely to watch.

Fox did everything they possibly could to kill Futurama, and they finally succeeded.

160. Yeah apparently not even FOX can claim that the show wasn't a success
Here's some of the news on gotfuturama.com.

---------------------------------------
Good news, everyone?

Over the last week, several sources from within the animation business have indicated to us that there is renewed talk at FOX about bringing fresh Futurama content directly to DVD. We corroborated this with other sources close to the show before publishing the information.
---------------------------------------

This type of news from top people like David X. Cohen, Billy West, John DiMaggio, and even Groening has been circulating around, so chances are it's true.

Kinda shows that no matter how hard FOX tries to sink a show, the fans know quality and won't give up on it.

Let's hope!

:)

4. I remember that one as well
Mine is Joan of Arcadia....

I thought that was a pretty good show that spoke to a spirutality without embracing anyone particular religion.

Sure it was in the Judeo/Christian mode, you can't heve everythng, but it really talked about the little ways that spituality creeps into our everyday life's...

Yea, I know Amber Tambyn was tedious, but the rest of the cast was top notch....

I am just glad it lasted 2 years

I can remember watching it w/ a group of friends every week. That was our night-our girls night-to be able to get away from everything else, make really fatty or salty or sweet foods (like danger pudding) and get out our hankies or sometimes just cheer (especially when the British bride who married Charlie got her comeuppence. I really hated her).

23. The Hathaways
It was my favorite TV series growing up in the early 60's. Starring Jack Weston and Peggy Cass, it was about Walter and Elinor Hathaway, a man and wife who adopted a family of performing chimpanzees and treated them like their own children. It ran on ABC and when it was cancelled there was a major nationwide protest to try to keep it on the air. I loved that show even though it was stupidly ridiculous but hilariously funny.

but never heard they had a hand in Carnivales downfall. I have a feeling this show flew far enough under the radar, never being a huge enough HBO hit ala The Sopranos or Sex and the City, to get that much protest.

I could be wrong and welcome being proven wrong if that is the case.

Carnivales director is making a comedy for showtime, for what it's worth.

I too mourn the loss of Carnivale. Who knows what took place at Trinity test site ? :( That scene with Ben at white sands with the preacher was crazy. gave me the chills.

I bought my TiVo for this show specificially, but when it got cancelled I free'd up all the space the 13 episodes were taking in protest.

After that I really miss Angel (though I never watched it when it was on, only on DVD) and I think Firefly got shafted WAY too early.

Luckily the Firefly movie comes out in just a few months and hopefully someday they'll do an Angel/Buffy movie

33. Alley McBeal
Analyzing Ally

Ally McBeal amuses and intrigues me. Not only because she is the main character in one of the most popular TV shows, and the show is written by one of my favorite screenwriters, David Kelley. It is also because of the psychologist in me. I know that at least one (TV) psychologist shares my bemusement. Here is a conversation between Ally and her therapist, Dr. Tracy (hilariously played by Tracy Alman):

Ally: "The real truth is, I probably don't wanna be too happy or content. 'Cause then what? I actually like the quest, the search. That's the fun. The more lost you are the more you have to look forward to. Whadda know, I'm having a great time, and I don't even know it."

Dr. Tracy: "Ally, with you, everything is about you. But that's ok. Narcissism is a wonderful thing."

Ally: "It is?"

Dr. Tracy: "Yeah, for me. Nuts like you heat my pool."

75. Frank Pembleton was the most compelling character in TV history, IMHO.
Braugher was brilliant in that role. Yaphet Kotto, Kyle Secor, Daniel Baldwin... great cast.
Did you happen to catch the follow-up TV movie that essentially ended the series?
The final scene was classic. Last line: "What do you think this is, Heaven?"

With Kotto, Daniel Baldwin, & John Polito playing cards, waiting for an empty chair to be filled. The movie was very nice indeed. Braugher was great. His portrayal of Frank Pembleton was masterful. With ever other cop show with someone in the box I keep looking for Braugher to pop in and show 'em how it's done. Clarke Johnson was excellent as well. The movie was a nice finale to an outstanding show. It was too bad it had to end.

87. I just watched that last weekend--
I loved Homicide but didn't realize how much I missed it until I watched the movie again. I'm now getting the DVDs from Netflix to watch the entire series again. The one episode about the guy who was trapped inbetween a subway car and the platform still gives me chills just thinking about it.

I also miss WKRP ("With God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly!"), Northern Exposure (great characters), and Sports Night.

Of course, I still miss the X-Files, but it was probably a good thing it ended when it did . . . .

PS-I just joined the DU Activists Corps! :woohoo:

Edited on Mon Jul-11-05 06:23 PM by 4_Legs_Good
I think it just ran it's course. Personally I thought the last season sucked pretty bad. Sarah Michelle Ghellar just didn't care anymore. All the preaching - feh!

Angel, on the other hand, was canceled outright, and it was a crying shame. That show just kept getting better and better (minus season 4 which was mostly bad - I hated Connor).

I agree that Wheddon needs something to work on. Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll bring Firefly back if the movie is a success.

94. You know, you're right. I think the show could have continued w/o Buffy
It woulda made the name problematic, but by the end, she was the least interesting character. Willow, Xander, Dawn, Giles, Anya were all interesting enough characters to keep the show going. Hell, if you need a slayer, bring back Faith full time; she was the best!

I agree also on Connor. It didn't have to be that bad. I thought up to Season 3, Cordy just got better and better to the point where she was sizzling, but then in season 4 she was obviously pregnant and her acting suffered horribly (and understandably). She coulda come back strong though, once they got rid of Connor. And adding Spike to the Angel mix was the best choice they ever made. By the end (of Buffy) he was far and away my favorite character.

I agree about Connor. He sucked big time. But hey, maybe they'll make a movie with the whole gang. That would be great. And if SMG doesn't wanna do it, bring Faith in. She kicked ass. :)

I loved HerK and his little buddy Iolaus. Not to mention Ares, (RIP: New Zealand's Kevin Smith)Aphrodite, Zeus, Hera, Auto. It wasn't rocket science but it was a heck of a lot of fun, and a nice break from reality.

Could never get into Xena. I was a HerK girl all the way. By the way I spell it with a K for Kevin Sorbo. That was his fans way to diffrentiate him from the others who had previously played the role, and the mythological written version.

HTLJ had the right mix of humor, drama, and I loved that New Zealand scenery. I do have all five seasons on DVD and I also hope to get season 6 soon.

Also I only discovered Profiler repeats in recent years welll after it was cancelled but I love that show and think NBC cancelled it way too early. Considering the amount of shows that have tried to rip it off since, I think NBC misjudged it's staying power. I especially miss John Grant, although I do love his portrayer's other work as well. I do have the DVD's.

I also loved and miss Remington Steele and WKRP! I am really sad that WKRP probably will not make it to DVD because of high cost of music rights. x(

I keep hearing rumors that it's about to happen, but then it never seems to.

Watching the last episode, I kept thinking, this is still good and fresh, why is it being canceled? Then I remembered that Duchovny was no longer a regular, and the Scully/Mulder relationship is what made the show great.

180. Was that the one that used a Talking Heads or David Byrne song
as the theme? If so, that was pretty funny. Tea Leone actually has quite a gift for comedy.

121. I forgot the title - used to be on the WB
A show about a blonde girl who used to be fat, one of her brothers is a gangster and the other one is a fundie, she has a couple of twin sisters (I think), there was something weird about her parents but I forgot what it was, they all lived in Rhode Island...

Anyone know what I'm talking about? I think it lasted one season.

OH! - "Maybe It's Me"?

garofalo, stiller, and odenkirk -sure, they all went on to do great things, but FOX screwed us out of what could have been the greatest sketch show since the original SNL cast

137. Not cancelled, per se, but "The Kingdom"
Lars von Trier wrote and directed this 9+ hour epic TV miniseries for Danish TV. It's about a haunted hospital, and the second part ended with an insane cliffhanger ending.

One of the lead actors died before shooting was scheduled to begin for the third and final installment, and von Trier decided that he would not make the last part without all the original caset members.

So the last five hours were never filmed, and von Trier has never revealed how it was to conclude.

191. Too many
"Sliders" for one. "The Adventures of Brisco County Jr." for another. "Firefly" for another. All great shows that I loved but gone now...all because they were too "different" for mainstream audiences. Except "Sliders." That was around for a while. Until finally even Jerry O'Connell gave up on it. I think it went downhill after John Rhys-Davies left it.
