I just "heimliched" myself.. Yikes....
I had a malted milk ball in my mouth...sneezed, and managed to damn near choke myself to death..
I coughed, and in the inhale part, I managed to lodge it further..

Jeeeeez.. not being able to breathe is the pits.. I can joke now, but a few minutes ago.....:scared:..

My whole body was a pins & needles feeling, and I was actually seeing spots & stars.. just like in the old cartoons...

Throat is a bit sore now, but hey.. I can breathe again :)

I had this horrible thought afterwards, that being alone when something like that happens is really scary..

6. How did you Heimlich yourself?
Did you do some improv with the abdominal thrust? I would of tried leaning over a chair or railing.....or whatever was available.

Great Job!!!!!! Your here to tell us all about it! :applause:

9. I don't know if I did it right, but
I just put my arms together under my diaphram and push in really hard..then put my head down, and when I coughed, it dislodged.. :)

I did the maneuver on my son when he was 2..a neighbor gave him a piece of apple..

14. They say that you can push on your diaphragm with the edge of a counter
or table as well. I think it would be a little easier to press harder.

16. It appears to of been a sensational
creative intervention. The goal is just to "force out" the residual air in the lungs. You did it!!!!!!!:bounce:

7. my mom has told me since I was 6 not to eat candy alone....
Edited on Mon Jul-11-05 05:45 PM by fleabert
because when I was in first grade, one of our neighbors died that way while her kid was at school and husband was at work. She was eating peanut M&M's, while watching TV, lying down, and she choked. this was before the heimlich had a lot of press, and she apparently just passed out from lack of oxygen, then died some minutes later.

I always made fun of my mom for being paranoid, and told her that half of the story is that she was eating while laying down...and it could have happened with any food, but it's not the worst advice she's ever given me.

Good job staying calm and administering the heimlich yourself, I used to teach first aid, and always included that with the normal heimlich instructions.

so glad you are okay!

edited to check spelling...everything came out okay! (no pun intended)

11. I once choked on a lifesaver.. on the swing-arm of the Panama Canal Bridge
Edited on Mon Jul-11-05 05:45 PM by SoCalDem
I was 6..My parents freaked out, but the candy had a hole in the center and I managed to breathe.. I guess that's why they are called LIFESAVERS :)

They hanged me upside down and beat on my back :)...and the candy fell through the grates of the bridge..straight into Gatun Lake

10. Holy Hell, glad your'e OK. That being said, I have a question.
Edited on Mon Jul-11-05 05:44 PM by WeRQ4U
Did you finish eating that specific milk ball guily of attempted murder? Or did you then avoid it?

Personally, I would have eaten it out of spite. I would have chewed it many times, and probably cussed at it while doing it. Just my opinion. However, I can totally understand if you just set it aside.

So, what did you do?

15. Or maybe saved it in a jar of formaldehyde!
Bronzed it, and worn it around my neck.

Thankfully our friend's okay, and could take a little action. Being taken down by a pretzel, though, is hard, hard work.
