They're remaking The Bad News Bears; Question...WHY??
Why remake an absolutely PERFECT movie?? With Walter Matthau and Tatum O'Neal, are you kidding? How can you improve on that? Why not remake a BAD movie and make it better?

And this one stars Billy Bob Thornton...you know if he plays the coach like his character in Sling Blade, THEN it will be interesting...

:banghead:

1. That is a very good question, one I asked upon seeing the poster
at the movie theater.

3. MONEY.
And sadly, they will make oodles of it.

I just watched the original with my eight year old son, and he absolutely loved it.

4. I cringe every time they show the commercial

It's going to SUCK.

The original could only have been made in the 70's, it won't work today. Foul mouthed kids were shocking back then, and a beer drinking coach was probably more the norm. Times have changed, and like you said the original was perfect. No need for a remake.

I had a huge crush on Tatum O'Neal back then. She was such a cutie.

Further edit: I didn't know Richard Linklater was directing.. Maybe it will be 'Dazed and Confused' quality. Let's hope.

5. Actually, isn't Richard Linklater directing this???
I thought I heard that somewhere...he's one of my favorite directors (he's also making "A Scanner Darkly" based on the Philip K Dick novel). So, if he is, I'll probably go because I like his stuff so much...even if it is a cash in :)

6. Billy Bob Thornton is running low on coke?
I don't know, there seems to be little rationale for remaking this picture.

7. Actually, this is one remake I'm interested in
It's got Billy Bob Thorton acting like his character in Bad Santa and it's from the same people who wrote Bad Santa. Could turn out to be interesting.

8. Money.
It's cheap to re-film a concept you already own. Beats thinking.

There's also a certain amount of nostalgia out there for the original. Heck, I liked it, but I was a kid at the time, and cussing was outrageous. Now I get more shocking things free with my breakfast cereal.

I have zero interest in yet another Hollywood rehash.

9. Because it's cheaper than getting a new story?
Just guessing.

10. The Beauty of the Original Was It's Timelessness
The original was made in the 70s, but it could easily play today. It's a great comment on suburban America, the breakdown of the family, racial integration, obese children, Fathers who push their sons too hard, alcoholism, and most importantly, the fact that the Bears lost in the end, yet they still celebrated.
