Poll question: Favorite Simon & Garfunkel song?
This is by NO means a comprehensive list...just the Greatest Hits album.

No room for "something else!" Just name it!

5. Oh man.... I can't pick!
Ok, not true, I picked the Boxer. I have a soft spot for that... the first S&G song I knew. But there are SO many good songs.... I Am A Rock, El Condor Pasa... Scarborough Fair...

*off to find CDs*

7. None of the above
I was never a fan of Simon and Garfunkle until I heard "The Only Living Boy in New York" on the soundtrack to Garden State. Now I really dig that song. I'd heard and liked Mrs. Robinson and Bridge Over Troubled Water before but don't like either of them as much as I like "Only Living Boy..."

It sounds so upbeat, and yet it's just the darkest song.

And I think it's poignant for a lot of us as well.

42. America would be
my second choice. Actually they are pretty interchangeable and I could be listening to a different song and then change my mind entirely lol. Hard to decide isn't it?

Both of those songs are so beautiful that they often bring tears to my eyes.

20. Flowers Never Bend with the Rainfall
Through the corridors of sleep
Past the shadows dark and deep
My mind dances and leaps in confusion.
I don’t know what is real,
I can’t touch what I feel
And I hide behind the shield of my illusion.

So I’ll continue to continue to pretend
My life will never end,
And flowers never bend
With the rainfall.

The mirror on my wall
Casts an image dark and small
But I’m not sure at all it’s my reflection.
I am blinded by the light
Of God and truth and right
And I wander in the night without direction.

So I’ll continue to continue to pretend
My life will never end,
And flowers never bend
With the rainfall.

It’s no matter if you’re born
To play the king or pawn
For the line is thinly drawn ’tween joy and sorrow,
So my fantasy
Becomes reality,
And I must be what I must be and face tomorrow.

So I’ll continue to continue to pretend
My life will never end,
And flowers never bend
With the rainfall.

Sleeping there on the Greyhound, going south, even, with my ex... (on edit: so to speak...beautiful times)

Very poignant.

29. Was at the central park concert
reunion. When the sound of silence began, you literally HEARD the wind pick up and rustle the trees... there were a quarter of a million people there..as far as your eyes could see, you saw people and still..it was silent. A memory that sends me the chills every SINGLE time I think of it.

wow.

41. I more remember the cheer that went up on "Counting the cars on the
New Jersey turnpike." I came from Philly with a dozen fellow Penn students; it's a fair bet that a good proportion if not the majority of the crowd came on the turnpike as well. I just found out below that the actual printed lyrics are "They've all gone to look for America," though for the night Paul and Artie made it "all come" instead. I guess they knew, too.

By the way, I think it was 400K rather than 250K in the throng, though of course I might be mistaken.

37. "America"
Always chokes me up..

Let us be lovers we’ll marry our fortunes together
I’ve got some real estate here in my bag
So we bought a pack of cigarettes and mrs. wagner pies
And we walked off to look for america
Kathy, I said as we boarded a greyhound in pittsburgh
Michigan seems like a dream to me now
It took me four days to hitchhike from saginaw
I’ve gone to look for america

Laughing on the bus
Playing games with the faces
She said the man in the gabardine suit was a spy
I said be careful his bowtie is really a camera

Toss me a cigarette, I think there’s one in my raincoat
We smoked the last one an hour ago
So I looked at the scenery, she read her magazine
And the moon rose over an open field

Kathy, I’m lost, I said, though I knew she was sleeping
I’m empty and aching and I don’t know why
Counting the cars on the new jersey turnpike
They’ve all gone to look for america
All gone to look for america
All gone to look for america......

40. Feelin' Groovy, but, FYI, it's called the "59th Street Bridge Song"
Which is in itself a misnomer, because the bridge is officially called either the Queensboro Bridge or Queens Bridge, and you actually might offend someone from Queens to call it the 59th St Bridge.
