Of all the friggin', stupid, dumb luck, confounded...
Who the hell would guess that Guinness Stout doesn't come with a twist off lid? I would have brought a bottle opener if I had known!

And discovering this fact didn't feel real good, neither!

Oh well, back to improvising.

Edited on Tue Jul-12-05 01:00 AM by nothingshocksmeanymo
buy it in the draught cans or don't buy it at all

unless you can afford to keep a keg around the house

on edit: Use your teeth...you're a Texan ;-)

10. I've used my teeth many a time to open a bottle
They don't feel as solid as they used to, though.

14. Don't use your teeth!
Use any blunt edge (such as a lighter) and just pry the top off. It's not that hard, you use a rocking motion to lift the lid.

Just don't use your teeth. :)

19. As a teen, along the bayous of Mississippi, when i would help out
on the shrimp boats, I opened many a Barqs bottle with my teeth. The cap slipped once, and I still have a gouge in one of my teeth. After that, I started opening them on the piers by resting the edge of the cap on the edge of post and hitting the lid with the top of my fist. Usually worked. Sometimes I snapped off the glass ring on the top of the bottle along with the cap.

Ah, those were the days. 95 degrees and 95% humidity on a muddy bayou smashing mosquitoes until you were covered in blood while fighting the flies for your bologna and cheese on Wonderbread sandwiches...

Think I'll drink the beer I just opened now! :-)

6. Except for the Macro-brews, almost everything requires a bottle opener
To be honest, the seal is better with a standard bottle cap, and it's cheaper to buy. So, a micro or mid-major brewery can actually give you a good product and not waste a ton of money on novelty caps.

15. New place, long story, and I don't drink that much anyway.
I usually drink Guiness draft from a can, although more often I drink sake. Just trying to learn. Trying.

8. go to a doorway, and use the part that holds the bolt in place...
use the side facing the screws. Most of the plates even have a tabbed part that resembles a bottle opener. Put the cap in, and twist out, sideways. Use caution to prevent the bottle hitting the doorjamb, and be quick, as you're pretty much guaranteed to spill a bit.
Try it; it's the best dorm room emergency rations instructions since iron-heated grilled-cheese sandwiches.

...twist lids for their stubbies now, but I guess you guys don't have those ones yet.

I won't offer a suggestion on how to open it. Lots of good advice already given, but do enjoy your Guiness! :toast:

the darker and thicker and stouter the better. Light ales are for hot lemonadey days. Which I get few of in the pacific NW.
