Anybody else ambivalent about personal posting milestones?
I'm rapidly coming up on 10,000, and as with 5,000 long long ago, I'm feeling like running and hiding rather than going over the hump. Those of you who post clever, thoughtful or at least political stuff on this political site can be proud, but I only ever post goofy polls, quirky threads about cars and movies that interest nobody and the occasional attaboy. I feel like even within the context of having wasted my life, 10,000 posts over 2 1/2 years just represent a post-graduate course in life-wasting. Then again, tomorrow I'll think up another goofy poll and I'll be completely over it. How do YOU feel?

(Note: This has nothing at all to do with NY99's Milestones threads, which I crazy mad love. I thought that putting "personal" in the subject line would make that clear, but just wanted to make it crystal clear.)

1. I have made a killing off of my "Who would win in a fight" threads
just replying to all the replies has helped put me up about 2000 posts

in the last 3 weeks.

7. Good to see you around more often lately
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like you were away a long time. Good to have you back.

2. I feel like I want to be a paperback writer
but until I get my novel, or collection of essays written, or even started, I will sit around here and post. Time is never wasted, if you are having fun, and besides that I am an activist here and pick up news and views that I cannot get from ABC, although I probably should be reading Herbert, Altercation, and the Daily Howler.

8. Actually, one argument against being clever on DU is that it's going
to take eons to comb through my past posts to see if there's anything worthy of publication, or at least repetition. I was just on the point of telling all my friends how to search the Archives in case they wanted to read what I'd been putting out for the past 2 years when the Archives became only reachable by Advanced Search (and thus only for donors).

9. well it is searchable through google as well
plus you can always copy your own posts and save them on your hard-drive. One trouble is that often a post, even a very good one, does not stand alone without the context of the thread.

I have save some of my own, such as:
"educated does seem to be a way of arrogantly forgetting how ignorant we all are.
The sum total of humanity's knowlegde represents what fraction of all knowledge? 10% or .01%. And the most educated human knows what percentage of all of humanity's knowledge? 30%? With my seven years of university education and thirty years of reading am I up to 10% yet?"

or

"what is 5,144,795 besides more than the population of Kansas and Nebraska combined?
It is the number of people in California who voted for Bush.
What is 2,828,723 besides about the population of Vermont, Rhode Island and New Hampshire combined?
It is the number of people in Texas who voted for Kerry.
1,477,122 = about the population of North and South Dakota combined and the number of Bush voters in Wisconsin.
1,304,844 = about the population of Montana and Wyoming combined and the number of Bush voters in Washington state.
2,756,904 = about the population of Arkansas and the number of Bush voters in Pennsylvania.
2,823,235 = about the population of Iowa and the number of Bush voters in New York.
2,336,253 = more than the number of eligible voters in Mississippi and the number of Illini who voted for Bush
2,310,803 = about the population of Utah and the number of Bush voters in Michigan.
So for the last time take the blue state arrogance and red state bashing and put it where the sun don't shine, which is usually Minnesota."

but I have not been keeping up.

12. Not really. Only about 90 out of my 9800 make it, and most of those
are from DU1 two years ago and more.

I've got untold amounts of material all over this computer, on my AlphaSmart, in my Sent Items folder, and all over DU. I used to sort through and find and compile the good stuff, but I sort of gave up somewhere in 2002. Need to do that again; I haven't updated my assorted sites in eons, roughly since starting here. Hmmmmmmm, coincidence?:)

Incidentally, Alltheweb found even fewer of my DU posts than Google did, but did turn up an undisclosedlocation who posted briefly at FR. (Wasn't me!) Apparently he not only got banned but all his posts were zapped; only evidence was that some freepers had posted replies to him.

Why settle down and post on an anonymous board when you could be doing other things I guess. :eyes:

3. Don't be silly
You're entertaining the masses. We appreciate it, don't you know?

I've seen people start after me who have way over 10,000 post already. I don't think they are doing anything other than being who they are. :)

6. Thanks, means a lot.
(Insert your preferred "Tip your waitress" or "I'll be here all week"-type cliche here.:))
