Do you have a switch on the notebook that needs to be turned on for the wireless to work? Mine does, and once that was the problem.

2. It's weird because the wireless modem can see the router.
But can't connect to it.

3. What make/model are your wireless card and router?

I had issue with a D-Link card and XP SP2... updating the driver for the wireless card helped.

4. The router is a Netgear .
I've tried my old Netgear wireless card and the new card (Dell) that came with the laptop. I get the same message for both of them.

Maybe I'll try the driver suggestion.

5. Yeah... go to their website. Do you have wireless security on your
router setup? Do you know how to change configuration through their web interface?

6. I've seen this before...
... when the encryption keys between the card and the access point were not in sync.

Try turning off the encryption and see if it works then. If so, you have to carefully sync up your pass keys.
