Need help getting Firefox to run quicktime.

Whenever a website has something that requires quicktime to function correctly, firefox tells me I need a plug in. When I tell it to download it, the things doesn't work. I tried installing quicktime manually, but firefox still won't play the sounds from quicktime on the websites. Help please!!!

1. What version of Firefox are you using?

What version of QuickTime? And what's your operating system?

2. I use XP Home, Firefox 1.0.4 and Quicktime 6.5

But I downloaded the second option on the website "QuickTime 6.5 for Win 98/ME" instead of "QuickTime 6.5 with iTunes for Win 2000/XP" because I don't want iTunes, and when I tried installing the first option it wouldn't let me not install iTunes.

5. I'd go with the iTunes version anyway.

And maybe find a way to either uninstall that component or live with it.

Run a google search for "quicktime alternative".

6. A few things you can try ...

In Firefox, go to "Tools" ... "Options" ... "Downloads"
Click the "plugins" button at the bottom of the window. Make sure "QuickTime Movie" is enabled. If not, enable it.



Then click the "Start Button" ... "Programs" ... "QuickTime" ... "QuickTime Player"

When the player is open, click "Edit" ... "Preferences" ... "QuickTime Preferences".

In the "Quicktime Settings" window, choose "Browser Plugin". Make sure "Play movies automatically" is checked.

Click the "MIME Settings" button. Under "Video" make sure "QuickTime Movie" is checked. (Also check any other audio or video file that you want QuickTime to handle in Firefox.)

Edit: Actually, the sound quality isn't very good with the quicktime alternative. Is the regular quicktime better?

8. I've never used an alternative, so I can't compare them but ...

I always thought the sound quality in QuickTime was good.


About your original problem ...

By any chance did you have Quicktime installed before you installed Firefox? I just remembered something that I read on another board a while back: sometimes, if Quicktime is installed first, Firefox has trouble recognizing it even if you install Quicktime again.

The solution was to uninstall Firefox (after backing up your profile) and uninstall Quicktime. Then reinstall Firefox and then Quicktime. Everything should work after that. :-)
