As in kitchen cupboards, how do you pronounce this word? It's cubberd, or cubbert, right?

3. pretty much the way it's pronounced then I guess...
it always struck me how the word is spelled not at all how liked it's pronounced.

7. Most words in the English language have unfathomable spellings,
Totally belying their pronunciation. That's the reason that English is so difficult as a second language. There are no consistent rules and too many exceptions. As for pronunciation, the two areas of the country that come closest to Standard American Speech (without regional accents) are NY and Oregon.:hi:
