Poll question: Did you ever spend time looking for deeper meaning in a song or poem...
Edited on Wed Jul-13-05 09:48 AM by progmom
...only to talk to the artist/poet later and discover that there was no deeper meaning and you're really a pretentious wanker trying to find parallels between monks in lavender robes and songwriters?

Purely hypothetical, I assure you.

9. I have an English degree.
I'm always looking for deeper meanings. :eyes:

I remember taking a creative writing course in college in which we would write a short story and then present it to the rest of the class for analysis. I was amazed at all of the symbols and deeper meanings that people found in my work that I did not put there. Some of it was great stuff, too. "I wish I had meant to do that" was something I said a lot in that class.

We bring a lot of our personal experiences to songs, poetry, writing, etc. Most artists that I know don't mind that. In fact, they encourage it. That's how art takes on a life of its own.

Now I'm going to turn the pretension off. I think I need some fresh air. :D
