WOOOHOOO! I have health insurance!!
Great fucking news!

The owner of the place I work took me aside a couple of nights ago and told me that he realized I was a hard worker and that I put in a lot of hours. He also noticed that I'd been there over a year and hadn't gotten a raise.
\
Then he dropped the "I" bomb on me: he was going to offer me health insurance...."Come in tuesday afternnoon and we'll have an insurance agent here. Not everyone is getting it, just you and maybe three other people who've been here a long time."

So they explained the plan:

$500 deductable.
Almost across the board 90% coverage.
My wife is covered under the plan.
Prescriptions covered.
Eyes covered.
No dental, but so what.

And here's the kicker: {i]The owner would be paying every cent of it. Not a dollar would be coming out of my paycheck.

I cannot tell you how psyched I am. The feeling of validation is almost overwhelming.

DAMN IT FEELS GOOD TO BE A GANGSTA!

I work in a restaurant in Chicago.

The owner is a great, great man. THAT is how employers ought to be in every industry.

11. I know....
It's like banging your head against a wall, stopping, and then going, "Man, it feels so good not to be banging my head against a wall!"

It shouldn't be this way. Insurance for all and a living wage for all ought to be a given.

It's awesome knowing that you won't have to sell all your possessions and go homeless just to get treated for being sick. I'm gonna get a check up THE DAY this goes into effect!

8. I'm happy that you're getting insurance
But how sad this is something to celebrate.

Is it legal to offer insurance to only select employees? Wow.

18. Yeah, it's legal....
Some are eligible because of the amopunt of hours they work and how long they've been wioth the company. I work over forty hours a week and I've been there over a year. When I joined, there was no promise of insurance, so this comes as a very pleasant surprise.

But yeah.....It's like celebrating being able to breathe. Like, shouldn't EVERYONE have insurance?

I'm sorry to hear about your MS, man. I'm sure Rx for ya is through the roof.

But like the other posters above said....how sad it is that we should be celebrating this? We all should have total coverage.

Sort of shameful joy, huh? Not what we wish in a better world, but still. . .

Besides, i've had the disease for going on 11 years. I'm past the point of worrying about it. I have some bad days where the pain is too bad to ignore, but, oh well! Thanks. But, the insurance covering all but $20 of an $1100 a month medicine is a pretty good thing!
