Any Robbie Fulks fans?
This is from "Countrier Than Thou" on his new CD.

He's got a ranch, he wears a Stetson
He's a hip-shootin’ ex-oil king
Even talks like Buddy Ebsen
But he's sittin’ in the West Wing
Frankenstein, I'm well aware of
But won't somebody please explain
How you get a county sheriff
Walkin’ with a frat boy's brain?

Countrier than thou
Countrier than thou
Well, you went to Andover
What's the banjo fer?
Countrier than thou

whaddya think?

5. i used to see him play with jim dewan in the 80s in chicago....
he had a great song about his father when he was growing up in the south. i remember the words "and he never ate his young" at the end of one line. other than the fact it was a hilarious song, that's all i remember. i don't think he ever recorded it.

7. absolutely.....
....and i'm glad he's been getting national exposure for some time now. back in the 80s he was a local act in chicago, mainly performing at coffee houses and taverns. he was somehow connected to the old town school of folk music, but like so many from that school his music transcends folk music.

9. during that time, he also played guitar in a bluegrass band
he's country and folk and pop and jazz and swing and rock

one of the best solo performers I've ever seen.
