Do you wear any of the LIVESTRONG bracelet derivations?

I wear one that says "Cure - Care - Committment" from the American Diabetes Association. That's only because I actually have the condition. My entire family wears them.

They're obviously a catchy fad, much like "Slap Bracelets" were when I was younger. But for once, the fad actually promotes something..........in most cases.

5. Bracelets are starting to rate up there with the yellow magnets

so use to use/wear but has very little meaning to the person who is using/wearing it.

The livestrong bracelets are suppose to show support for cancer survivors and I can't tell you how many times I see some kid/adult hanging outside a building wearing one of those yellow bracelets and smoking up a storm.

I did have a "Buy Blue" bracelet but ended up giving a bunch of them away and quit wearing them because the whole bracelet thing is nothing more than another crap fad of bracelets where 99% of them are probably made by kids working for slave wages in SE Asia

You gotta pay for them either way. If someone gives their dollar to the ADA, just to be cool, I could care less. They gave their dollar. Those that do care, of course, of greatly appreciated.

Well, actually I do support JDF because my niece is also diabetic. But those bracelets still cost mone to make and money to ship them out to the people who request them. Makes more sense to just donate cash

The people who wear those bracelets, not for the donation, but for the fashion, are sending money, albeit a smaller amount, to an institution that they would not have otherwise.

I don't need a receipt for my donations either, but we actually care.

I don't wear any of them because they're too big for my tiny wrists. However, I just ordered a youth sized one for leukemia because one of my favourite singers was just diagnosed with the disease. And I want one of the white ones from ONE.

I have worn my silver Till There's A Cure bracelet for enough years that it is beginning to need replacement, I would guess I have had it for 6 or 7 years. I also have a Never Surrender plastic purple bracelet that I got from Working Assests. I liked the pledge to never surrender to the things listed. I have to wear it wrapped around my watch band though because it keeps falling off.

I think I wore my POW/MIA bracelet for at least 10 years.

Everything these days has to become a fad but sometimes within the fad there can be meaning. Mine mean something to me every day.

no individuality in it. i used to wear it when the thing first started up, but now people wear them cause they are trendy, not cause they are supporting cancer research, so i refuse to wear it.

seems like theirs a magnetic car ribbon and a rubber bracelet for everything these days. everythings just a freakin sea of homogeneity with all the yellow ribbons and yellow bracelets... people dont stop to think and ACTUIALLY support what their 5 dollars here and 5 dollars there says they supports, if anything. fine, you got a bumpersticker and a braclet. you gave 10 dollars. i give my time.

you wanna support a cause, give time, its the best way.

25. I look at it in a completely different way.

I too am usually cynical about how trendy this has become, however, those people that purchase these bracelets simply to wear them for fashion reasons, contributed to the cause, whether they intended to or not. To me, that's not a bad thing. In fact, the institutions that have employed the use of these bracelets now do so, not for the awareness they produce, but for the money that they raise.

Also, I differentiate these things from the yellow ribbons. The yellow ribbons have been turned into a RW badge and I instantly associate their use with that of republicans. The funds spent to have these magnets do not go anywhere but into the pockets of whatever foreign sweatshop owner is currently producing them. The legitimate donation bracelets actually contribute to the causes they represent.

It's to promote awareness of ovarian cancer. I started wearing it when my mom was diagnosed in March of 2004. She passed away last month and I'm thinking about not wearing it any more just because it makes me so sad. I do think they serve a purpose. I've had 3 people ask me about mine and I was able to make them aware of how important it is to get regular check ups. Ovarian cancer is the "silent" killer, there are no symptoms until it's too late.

I wear "Count Me Blue"; a light lavender, "Spay and Neuter Your Pets; and a black one that has the name of a U.S. soldier that died either in Afghanistan or Iraq (actually I have two of them). Right now I am wearing one that says: Lance Cpl Kyle W. Codner, Wood River, NE, Marine, 5/26/04. I never supported the war, but have always felt the need to acknowledge those who are dying for Bush's lies and blunders.

Might trade my "Count me Blue" for one that says "Think Blue in 2006/2008".

the blue is a "progressive values" bracelet. i donated blood a few weeks ago and they gave me a red one that says "lifesaver" (i think)

i think these silicone bracelets have become too much of a fashion item and not an awareness item. i saw a pack of three "cause bracelets" at walgreens. they are assorted and come in a plastic bag so you don't even pick your "cause".

i only wear the livestrong and i sometimes wear the black one if it goes with my outfit.
