male box office draws for the 40's. A longer list would have included Clark Gable and others. Of the top five I went with Cary Grant, but I also loved the "Thin Man" movies with William Powell.

I can't decide which one. Both so different, but both so utterly awesome.

6. I always liked Robert Mitchum although he probably was more well

known for his "film noir" movies in the 50's and the Philip Marlowe movies in the 70's. He just seemed to get better and better with age. Probably my favorite-Cape Fear.

in the 30's. His biggest movie of the 40's was "Angel on My Shoulder".

No one likes prohibition-era gangster stories these days. His stuff seems so dated, but he was fine actor. It's all secret agents, international thieves and friendly murderers that Bogart and Grant had to deal with.

the GREAT Bogart, George Raft, Claude Raines, Clark Gable, Edward G. Robinson, Paul Muni, and I'm sure I'm missing quite a few. I also have to give a nod to the actor Orson Welles called the very greatest in cinematic history and with which I largely agree: the French actor Raimu. Raimu's films are like nothing else due to the natural power of his portrayals.
