Why can't I take a nap at work?
All places of employment should have nap rooms. For mental health.

I'm serious!

Okay, I'm not... but still...

I want a nap!

1. If that were the case
They'd never get me out of the nap room. :)

6. I would come out...
I'm a light sleeper and like to keep busy. :)

But sometimes after lunch I get to the point where I'm nearly nodding off. I think I'm better off skipping lunch honestly.

11. I'm a night owl/
insomniac. So they'd have to have me working at night if they didn't want me hogging the nap room. :)

7. I can't nap at work where I am at either
I did nap during break at two other places where I worked though. I had a summer job at a plastic factory, which had a couch in the women's bathroom/locker room. At another place, there was a cot in the first aid room.

13. I had a boyfriend who would just sleep at his desk.
Would lay his head down on his arm, and fall asleep, just like that. The bell would wake him after break (factory job).

I need a soft place to lie and peace and quiet to get to sleep. :(

8. Here's what I do
every single day. I take a nap in a former closet which now has a sofa. And no room for anything else. No windows. And very dark and quiet. I sleep for 30 minutes. Any longer -- and you get groggy. But 30 minutes makes a HUGE difference.
I'm addicted now. Need my nap.
And my co-workers know NOT to disturb me except in a dire emergency. Like a fire. (and some of them would probably not wake me up...that's another story).

14. You must have a big desk!
I'd have to be a contortionist to fit under mine.

Well, anothter one... and not in the reception area.

Maybe I could move this one? Think anyone'd notice?

23. When I was in academia, I had an office with a door that closed
When grading papers made me sleepy in the afternoons, I'd just put my head down on my desk and zone out for about 15 minutes. It made all the difference in the world.

Countries that have siestas are more in tune with human nature than we are. When I was in Wenzhou, China, in 1990, the whole city shut down between noon and 3:00 PM. Our guides disappeared. The pedicab drivers would curl up in the passenger seats of their pedicabs. The seamstresses in the shop across the street would put their heads down next to their sewing machines. The street vendors would set up cots in their stalls.

They stirred back to life at about 3PM, and then people were out on the streets till about midnight.

I guess they'd learned something in their 5,000-year-old culture.
