So, I'm changing by daughter's diaper and she asks...
"Daddy, what's the poopy's name?"

"Poopies don't have a name."

"It's a sad poopy. What's the poopy's name?"

"It's name is Karl."

"Why is the poopy Karl?

"Because Karl's name is 'Turd Blossom.'"

Being a Dad is cool.

3.  but if your daughter can
converse like that, she should be out of diapers. Now that you've named her poopy and have determined that it is sad, create a game, make poopy Karl happy by putting him in the toilet.

8. Oy!
This is funny. Give the guy a break.

There are some extremely verbal 18 month olds out there. I don't know what his daughter's age is, but my two boys were incredibly conversant and still wearing diapers and sucking on binkies when they were 2ish.

I'm sorry, but the story wasn't that funny. If the OP didn't want people to comment, then he shouldn't have posted it!

BTW.... why did'nt say somthing rude and nasty to the other poster in the thread who asked the same question?

17. how about this:
"sorry. I have no business telling you how to potty train your kid, but it's still funny."

Yours:

"but if your daughter can converse like that, she should be out of diapers."

Them - admitting they have no business there;
You - telling the OP that they are doing things wrong.

The OP wasn't interested in hearing how he is a "bad dad" -- he was relaying a story about poop.

Why shit on a thread? If it's not funny...

stay out of it!

Why should I apologies for what I think? I didn't say the OP was doing anything wrong, in fact I suggested a way to make PT a game, please point out these words to me in my post. Or am I now supposed to be responsible for the way people read and interpret my words?

Maybe next time the OP posts a cute story about their child, he could insert a disclaimer. only people who think this is cute or funny need reply?

20. Give me a break.
I already posted your words in all their glory.

You give out advice when none was requested about a situation you knew nothing about.

My son at 20 months could have had that conversation - should he have been potty trained by then? Even if you think so
I DON'T FUCKING CARE!

It's his kid - let him raise it.

This is the lounge, he was posting (in his opinion) a funny story. You come in and change the subject because you think he is doing something wrong. You never even mentioned that it wasn't funny in your OP.

And yes, you do have a responsibility in choosing your words so people can understand their meaning - the way you meant them, and I think you did.

34. My pediatrician advised me not to rush my daughter.
She said that some kids are ready faster than others and to rush them is to either confuse them or make them rebel against potty training. She said that when the time was right my daughter would tell me (mostly by actions). Also, many kids learn how to urinate in the toilet first since they don't like to sit and wait for any length of time. She was right. My kid was pottytrained completely in less than 3 days when she decided she was ready (this included overnight bathroom trips).
The little one above will be ready in their own speed and not a moment sooner. And, since the above was an innocent post (and not about potty training) we don't know the age of the child or if there are any physical impairments that would prolong potty training (and we don't need to).

26. Um, most toddlers can carry on a conversation, and
most are not potty trained these days until they're anywhere in the age range of 2 to 3 1/2.

Why are you so judgmental?

Do you have kids?

If you do have kids, do you like people judging the way you raise them?

If you don't have kids, then how do you "know" she should be out of diapers?

Sheesh.

41. I put up with other peoples judgement and advice every single day
Edited on Thu Jul-14-05 02:13 PM by notadmblnd
from the know it alls telling me that if I didn't put him in daycare then he wouldn't know how to interact socially, to advice on Potty training. Never did I attack someone on a personal level and tell them to "keep my nose out" or sling vulgarities at them. I either thanked them for their advice and gave it a try or I just IGNORED them like the OP seems to have done with me.

I find it ironic that I am being attacked for making a comment that many have deemed to be judgemental. But it seems perfectly acceptable that others can make judgemental comments about me.

38. Yes but not all kids are ready to toilet train.. mine each took until
3 to be mostly house broken. And the 5 yo is only just now learning to clean himself up. (And this is a kid who can read Harry Potter to me.)

So while I would have liked them to be done with didees at 2, they weren't ready and ultimately it wasn't up to me. :p

LOL....pretty funny, either way.

Perhaps next time it could go like this;

"Daddy, what's the poopy's name?"

"Poopies don't have a name."

"It's a sad poopy. What's the poopy's name?"

"It's name is Karl the swimmer."

"Why is the poopy Karl the swimmer?

"Because Karl's name is 'Mr. Wet, swimming Turd Blossom.'"
and he needs to swim in the toilet so he feels at home"

sorry. I have no business telling you how to potty train your kid, but it's still funny.

11. Well, she's getting better about using the potty anyway.
My doctor says to start putting her in underwear without diapers and just let her wet herself in them and feel yucky.

And I'm thinking, "Not on MY carpet!"

Aside from potty training, she's well ahead of the curve on everything else. Her doctor says not to be too concerned for a couple more months yet. She just turned three.

She recognizes Bush and calls him "shrub" and knows that "he wants to be mean to Bert and Ernie."

She knows all her letters and what sounds they make. You can ask her, "what letter says..." and she'll tell you. She's got a huge vocabulary. She knows about a hundred animals alone. She also knows the difference between "ball" and "circle" and "toroid." She knows all nine planets and can tell you what "dehydrated" means.

25. We want to put her in a Montessori school in September
So, we kind of have a "soft deadline" to master the potty training.

I've decided that part of the problem is she doesn't want the interruption of stopping what she's doing to take time-out and sit on the potty.

So now I put her on the potty after every diaper change anyway.

35. Find out if you can still buy plastic pants.
I used them w/ my daughter. They slide over the panties so that she felt the wetness but was able to save some of the carpet (since it keeps it from leaking). And they are reusable.
My daughter was 3 years and 2 months before she was pottytrained. She decided when she was ready and she did it. Best way to go.

14. Some embarassment is normal
Around 2+, especially while they're going. 'Hiding' is often a signal of them being ready to start potty training. But a lot of embarassment and/or self-consciousness about things are is learned responses to adult attitudes, as well.

9. During the election,
when I asked the baby, "What does W stand for?" he would answer "Wrong!" Also taught them the bridge lyrics to Make Love F*ck War (clean version) on our last long car trip. So lots of chanting "power to the people 'cause the people want PEACE!" going on around my house these days.

I guess they will have plenty to tell their analysts when they grow up. But for now, it is pretty funny ;)

15. cute! My 28 month old calls Bush "evil"
She watches parts of movies like "Mulan" or "Aladdin" and when she sees the villains like Shan-yu in Mulan or Jafar in Aladdin, she calls them "evil"... so, one day when the news was on, Bush was on the TV, and I taught her that Bush was "evil," too.

27. I try not to talk to her about "evil," but instead use "bad"
Edited on Thu Jul-14-05 01:22 PM by IanDB1
And she finds "bad people" very disturbing, so I go out of my way to point out that bad people can learn to be good.

For example, in "Elmo in Grouchland," Huxley (Mandy Potenkin) is a very bad man who steals Elmo's blanket. But at the end of the movie, Huxley "learns to be good," and becomes friends with Elmo.

I've told her that maybe Shrub can "learn to be good," but that first he needs a very long "time-out."

And by the way, we've stopped letting her watch Caillou.

Caillou is a very bad influence.

Caillou keeps doing some very, VERY bad things and never seems to really get punished.

He gets paint all over the house, and Dad just helps him clean it up before Mom gets home.

Narrator: "Caillou was very sorry he'd set fire to the cat and burned the house down."

Dad: "Now Caillou, setting the cat on fire wasn't very nice, was it? Let's buy a new cat before Mommy gets home, and we can tell her the house was struck by lightning, ok? Caillou... have you seen your little sister since the fire?"

Caillou: "I kind of tied her to the cat..."

And Caillou also taught my daughter some very bad things to say, like "Go away! Leave me alone!"
