Though I am very heterosexual, have any of you ever said to someone that you're gay just to see their reaction? I have a couple of times some years ago and she, and he, were totally astounded; "You don't look gay."

Talk about someone who's secure with their own sexuality .......

4. I live in a predominately gay neighborhood
some of my co-workers seem to assume that makes me gay. I purposely don't do or say anything to dissuade them from that notion.

6. Oh, sure, all the time
In fact just the other day I was in a meeting, and the guy running was wrapping it up and asked, "Does anyone have anything they want to share?" Everyone looked at each other, and the gazes eventually drifted towards my end of the table, and when they landed on me, I tearfully announced, "I'm gay!" Half the room busted a gut; half the room tittered nervously. I did it to make that half (the religious conservatives) titter nervously.

I also like introducing myself as a police officer in situations where someone I don't know is talking about doing something illegal. That gets better reactions most of the time.

15. It's against the law to impersonate an officer, but...
once years ago I couldn't resist. I had a long beard and hair at that time, also. I was dressed in biker leathers. I pulled over for a guy who was hitch-hiking and he jumped in my truck and lit up a joint. He offered it to me and I said "No thanks, I'm an under-cover police officer... Just kidding!"

18. Here's my best one

I'm often mistaken for a cop, military person, or conservative because I keep my hair really short, and I lift weights. I look the part I guess.

It helped me when I went to a party that several of my Latina-friends had been invited to - I believe they were at my house-warming party, and they wanted me to come to this one later on that night. The party thrower was a well-off podiatrist in his late 30s who liked them young, and if he could get them, young and Latina. Anyway, it was at his large house. I recognized the DJ so I went up to him to talk for a while. During this time, the foot-doc came up, had the music turned off, and got on the mic to say something along the lines of,

"Okay, I can tell you that eventually the cops are going to get called because my neighbors hate me, but this time, I've got a guy down the street watching for the cops, and when he sees them, he'll call this phone (holds up phone), which I'll give to the DJ. When he gets the message, the music will go off, and he'll announce the cops are coming. When that happens, I want all the underaged drinkers to calmly put their drinks down and walk - don't run - out to the garage. Everyone understand that?"

So he goes off again and comes back after 5 minutes, and he notices me for the first time and introduces himself.

"Hello, I'm Doctor so and so. I've never seen you before. Who are you?"
"I'm Officer J W, and I'd like to talk to you about these underaged drinkers."

The guy, who is already several inches shorter than I am but puffs himself up by sticking out his chest and acting cocky, visibly shrinks before me.

"You're... a police officer?"
"No, man, I'm just kidding ya. I came with my friends, so-and-so."

He didn't talk to me again after that. :)

Sounds like it'd be an interesting experiment of sorts though.

I've been called "fag" once or twice by random people though. That always struck me as weird.

8. I was assaulted once because I "looked" gay
The guy nearly killed me, too.

He started by ranting that I was gay. Which I'm not.

Which also goes to show that homophobia isn't just "their" problem.

12. The Xtian Right Is Openly Attacking Anti-Bullying Programs
Edited on Wed Jul-13-05 07:37 PM by AndyTiedye
...which they lump together with promoting tolerance of gays.

It is no surprise that they have sided with the bullies.

They think it's their God-given right to beat up anybody who is not just like them.

The Southern Baptist Convention, our de-facto state religion, just passed a resolution condemning tolerance programs, anti-bullying programs, and the like on the grounds that they "promote homosexuality".

13. I Have Gotten Into Shit Just For DEFENDING Gays Against Bullies
It is assumed that I must be "a fag or queer or something" myself in order for me to stand up to their offensive bullshit.

I imagine it's similar to the Klan going after blacks and slurring whites who defended them as "n-gg-r lovers".

14. What does "very heterosexual" mean?
More so than usual? How does that work?

I don't understand the point, honestly. Why tell people you're gay if you're not? Is it a shock value thing? And who are you talking about when you say, "Talk about someone who's secure with their own sexuality ......." Yourself? Is that because you can describe yourself as "very heterosexual?"

I don't care if you're gay or hetero or bi or asexual, honestly. And I don't understand how pretending to be gay just to shock others proves anything at all about your security level. Or asking about it here, for that matter.

Not trying to be snippy, just not really understanding the point of it all.

and in society what is still considered "unusual". It was also a personal test for me to not care what someone else thinks. That's all it is.
