2. I LOVE old trains!
This was a farewell gift from my employer. This was the rear car, luxury class. Nini is too shy to let me post her pic from the trip. :-)

The tracks were finished in 1901, and for many years, was the best way to get to the Grand Canyon...

4. ARRGGHH! Must you taunt me so?
By the way, how did you and nini do it? Sarah and I have been apart a little over a week and we're getting the shakes and can barely function as human beings. I've been sitting in the corner in a fetal position for 3 days now! :D

40. How do they "do it"?
Well, I'll explain it to you, my dear. First you have a man and a woman (well, frequently, but not always) and they really love each other (well, at least hopefully respect each other) and then........ :P

I am, however, going through withdrawals. :(

9. It was the WET winter!
Unbelievable precipitation this past winter. I drove from PHX to Flagstaff in March, and was STUNNED by how much green there was in the normally brown high desert. It was like I brought the northwest with me down here. :hi:

16. Trains are so underrated
I enjoy a nice train trip. I like going through cities on a train, I like going through the country on a train---I like being able to look at the scenery without worrying about the road. I haven't been on a train in way too long

19. I concur completely
One can absorb the landscape, converse at leisure, and learn to take life in at a slower pace by riding the long twin silver line.

Do yourself a favor and book a trip soon.

29. You do know that your proclamation put yourself on Ashcroft's radar
and while he may no longer be Attorney General - we all know he is probably snooping and persecuting for profit these days - and he most certainly puts on his radar, all who proclaim as you do as being "pro-hobo" which in his warped mind means "pro-hoboerotic art, sponsored by the NEA by folks like Maplethorpohobo"... certainly those words make you a person of interest...

36. Very nice pic, but I can't say I'm jealous
Here is a pic I took on July 5th. You can't see me because I AM IN THE LOCOMOTIVE! I got a 3 hour cab ride on the Wisconsin Northern railroad while they were working 40 miles of track north of Chippewa Falls, WI. Took LOTS of pictures.

Here's the train getting ready to leave Chetek, WI. where I was staying with my folks for the week.

Gotta love a train ride!

38. Hey Maddy, prepare for much drooling
Train crossing the Chetek River Bridge, built in 1892.

After a long walk thru woods and a mile down the tracks in 90 degree heat, we finally found this 100 yr old crossing tower. The railroad that crossed these tracks at about a 30 degree angle from right to left has been long abandoned and is just a path thru the woods now.
