Man Sentenced For Listing Boss On Dating, Job Web Sites

Man To Teach Children About Appropriate Internet Use

POSTED: 12:17 pm CDT June 8, 2005

WASHINGTON -- A Baltimore man has pleaded guilty to registering his boss on dating and employment Web sites to annoy her, the Maryland Attorney General's Office announced Wednesday.

Scott Carol Huffines, 41, was a Web designer for Maryland Public Television. Starting in September 2004, his boss started receiving a lot of unwanted e-mail from dating services and job lines, Washington, D.C., television station WRC reported.

The victim's work e-mail address was changed, but she continued to receive the unwanted messages.

Huffines admitted that he registered his supervisor's e-mail address because he knew it annoyed her. He later resigned from his job.

The judge in the case criticized Huffines for being "gutless" for not discussing any issues he had with his supervisor directly.

The victim said during the sentencing phase that she felt betrayed by Huffines.

Huffines pleaded guilty to using electronic mail with the intent to harass a person. He was sentenced to two years of unsupervised probation and 100 hours of community service in educating children about appropriate use of the Internet.
