I just smoked my last cigarette
I had to smoke one last one, then crumple up my pack. I made a point to ripping apart the used butt, to reinforce how disgusting smoking is. It made me gag a little - but I had to do it.

Now I feel like shit - this is good. I should feel like shit around the smell of nicotine smoke.

Any other ideas?

1. Congrats
and good luck. I quit 5 years ago, its rough, but worth it.

In you honor, the only Smithereens song I still enjoy:

smoked my last cigarette, sat in bed for a while,
F C D E
thought of your face and that brought me a smile,
a E G D
wanted another one, fell back asleep instead,
F C D E
woke and found you sitting there on the bed

(chorus)
G D A E
cigarette, cigarette, burning up time.
G D A E
cigarette, cigarette, watch the smoke climb.
G D A E
cigarette, cigarette, wasting away...
G D A E
just like this cigarette, our time is running down,
G D E F#
only one hour 'til you're leavin' this town.

(bridge)
G D A E
ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh,
G D A E
ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh,
G D A E
just like this cigarette, our time is running down,
G D E F#
only one hour 'till you're leavin' this town.

(verse2)
walked to the corner store, bought us another pack,
held my arm 'round you as we headed back.
I tried to change your mind, didn't want you to go,
I love you more, I think, than you will ever know.

(repeat chorus)

(coda)
smoked one last cigarette, sat in bed for a while,
thought of your face and that brought me a smile...

3. Change everything
Create distractions for yourself.

If you drive to work, take a new route.
Learn to cook different recipes for meals at home.
Change where you grocery shop.
Divert yourself by engaging in new activities. I crocheted a bazillion granny squares, as an example. I also refined my pie crust. I also took on washing all dishes by hand instead of using the dishwasher.
Do not do the same things you would do when you were smoking. If you used the computer and smoked, then stop using the computer, or move it to a different location.

If you change the patterns in your life, then the little triggers that inspire you to smoke won't pop up as frequently.

Good luck! It's going to get worse before it gets better, but it will get better! If you slip and have a smoke, don't kick yourself over it, and don't consider yourself a failure. Just get back on course with the not-smoking.

4. Mad props to you Taverner
I quite about three years ago and sucks ass but it so worth it. The first three days are the hardest, but with each day it gets easier. Eat a lot of miso soup. Miso cleans your system of free radicals and toxins in your body. I've also heard that seaweed helps clean your lungs but I'm not sure about that.

Good luck, hang in there.

6. Awwwwww Nate
Last night his whole face lit up when I came home and he was like "DadEEEEEE!!!!!"

We spent an hour together, him telling me about his day, in gibberish with occasional words thrown in. He kept hugging me and putting his head on my knee.

8. Yay for you! Good luck!
I quit smoking 26 moths ago. The money I save on cigarettes I now spend on gasoline.

But at least I can breathe now!

9. Change your routine regarding when
you smoked. After a meal, help with the dishes instead of smoking that after meal cigarette. At a restaurant, sit in the non-smoking area and leave as soon as you finish eating. When you are driving, listen to music you like and sing along with the songs. At other times, when you crave a cigarette, do some form of exercise instead.

 Drop and give me 50!!!!

I quit a 2 pack a day habit 6 weeks ago. And I thought I was hopeless. It takes 2 weeks for all the nicotine to leave your system. After that, it gets easier. Just use your willpower. If I can do it, anyone can.

14. Rememeber smoking is like a bad friend.
Sure, you think it's a friend, but it stinks, it steals your money, and it will kill you in time. You have done the right right to ditch that friend. It is not your friend.

I quit 7 months ago.
