Do the Freepers hate Johnny Depp?
Just saw Charlie & the Chocolate factory & LOVED IT! Thought it was one of the best films I've seen all year. IMO, Johnny made the film! I find it starnge, but I was in a weird way attratced to Johnny as Willy Wonka. Anyway, my friend went to the restroom after the movie & said some people in the bathroom were alking about someone he asumed was Johnny Depp. They were not happy. They said something like"He lives in France & hates America. He's not even married to the mother of his kids, who's French by the way."

How anyone can hate Depp is beyond me, but can soemone tell me what I'm missing? I mean, Depp's not like Tom Cruise where he's jumping on sofas or insulting anyone. Has Depp even said anything bad about Bush?

1. Called America a big dumb puppy and Bush a liar.
So yeah, LOL, I could see how freeper types would be all bent out of shape.

2. Johnny Depp is the Jimmy Stewart of our era
I am an old Baby Boomer; forgive me for that. Johnny Depp is a great actor. In any movie he is in, he is still Johnny Depp, like Cagney, Newman, Wayne (forget the politics, it's true). He is far better than Tom Cruise, and I like the cut of his jib. By the way, add Cary Grant to the list, and I should probably mention Bogie, who would have liked Johnny Depp a lot. This could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

5. I agree that JD is a great actor
but I disagree that he's "Johnny Depp" in every movie. He could have cruised along like Tom (pardon the pun) and done big blow-em-up blockbusters, but instead he chooses quirky roles that require more acting ability (and sometimes the marring of his beautiful face with bizarre makeup) than action hero type stuff. That's one reason I like him, he has professional courage (his first movie after his success on 21 Jump Street was John Waters' Cry Baby). Cruise is Cruise whether in
Rainman, Mission Impossible or any of his other unforgettable flicks. Edward Scissorhands is not Willy Wonka who's not Jack the Pirate who's not James M. Barrie (Finding Neverland).

7. Johnny Depp seems to take "character actor" type lead roles
I love to see the depth that character actors have. Some of the ones I like do lead roles as well, William H. Macy, Chris Walken, Willem Defoe. They pretty much do not have leading man looks, but I feel it takes so much more acting talent to get by without the looks. Johnny Depp can portray the depth of these characters when he could get by on looks alone. To be honest, there aren't very many actors I would consider to be knockouts that have that sort of depth.

8. I completely agree - he's one of the finest actors of his generation
in a generation in which great acting talent has been somewhat sparse. I am also a baby boomer and I also think he's of the few from today who can compare to the greats of my childhood and before. I also think he's discriminating in the roles he chooses and doesn't necessarily go for the gold.

3. Also a good friend and portrayer of the late great Hunter S. Thompson
Dope fiend and Bush-hater extraordinaire. If the freepers know anything about his connection to the Good Doctor (that's assuming they've read a single word he's written), then that's more reason for them to hate him.
