Check this out...
This short film was produced by a friend of mine, and stars Tom Braidwood (Lone Gunmen, X-Files).
Order a copy... it's an excellent movie!
http://members.shaw.ca/pev/index.htmlAnd for those of you who want to direct/produce... this is how it happens. The director and producer are regular film crew members in Vancouver, and two of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. Between the two of them, they raised/saved $90,000 to make this modern verion of Don Quixote, and because they are so likeable, they managed to get incredible support from the local film production community. Word got around, and before they knew it, they were getting calls from such diverse supporters as Chris Carter and the Teamsters Union, saying "hey, I have 'x' I'm not using right now...if you want to borrow it, just let me know".
The reason the crew looks so large, by the way, is because the movie was shot only on weekends over months and months, and crew members came and went as their schedules allowed.
Their cheapie ended up getting donated time from some of the best technicians in town, and all kinds of useful stuff from free film stock to such high-tech freebies as helicopters, three-axis cranes, and VisFX. The end result is a movie that would have cost over $3.5 million at standard rates, and it shows.
