Indie film fans/Lone Gunmen/X-Files fans...
Check this out...

This short film was produced by a friend of mine, and stars Tom Braidwood (Lone Gunmen, X-Files).

Order a copy... it's an excellent movie!

And for those of you who want to direct/produce... this is how it happens. The director and producer are regular film crew members in Vancouver, and two of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. Between the two of them, they raised/saved $90,000 to make this modern verion of Don Quixote, and because they are so likeable, they managed to get incredible support from the local film production community. Word got around, and before they knew it, they were getting calls from such diverse supporters as Chris Carter and the Teamsters Union, saying "hey, I have 'x' I'm not using right now...if you want to borrow it, just let me know".

The reason the crew looks so large, by the way, is because the movie was shot only on weekends over months and months, and crew members came and went as their schedules allowed.

Their cheapie ended up getting donated time from some of the best technicians in town, and all kinds of useful stuff from free film stock to such high-tech freebies as helicopters, three-axis cranes, and VisFX. The end result is a movie that would have cost over $3.5 million at standard rates, and it shows.

1. cool, I'll have to check it out
I absolutely adore Babz Chula and she's in it as well. She's a good lady.

I don't suppose your friends could use a PA/TAD... I'm trying to avoid having to do the 90 hours of grunt PA work just to get a TAD gig (I'm way too old to be hanging out in the rain for 14 hours a day to do traffic control or do what the poor guy outside the door is doing right now at 1:30 in the morning... which is sitting there in the rain making sure no one comes in to the building.) Sorry, you don't really have to answer that. I'm always looking for the next gig... and things have been slow lately for theatre techs... except for all the sound operators who are all busy and unavailable for anything until September.

Did your friends also work on the various Carter shows while they were still in town? They got a really sweet deal there. Especially with the leisure to work over "months and months". I'll have to ask around to see who else was working on this.

I don't suppose you know if there's going to be a showing at Pacific Cinematique (how does one put in French text characters here... do I have to type everything in Word and then paste it here to get special characters?) do you? Did they submit it to the Film Festival? I don't order stuff off the internet and I would like to see it.

Off to check on the set.

Have a good one.
