Last night my husband was told that he and I are sacrilegious. Why?
We have a vacation spot up north and over the years, when our two dogs passed on, we buried them up there. My husband made cement stones that we put on top of their graves with their names, birth date, date of death, and a heart on them. One has an angel sitting at the head of the stone. The other has a crying rabbit statue sitting at the head of the stone ( a beagle who loved to chase the rabbits up there). We have a plaque in the middle that reads: "If teardrops were a stairway, and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again."
My husband told this to a guy he was having coffee with last night, and this guy told him that doing that for our pets was sacrilegious. Because it was like going there to worship them and that you shouldn't do something like that for animals. We don't visit their graves to worship them, we visit because we miss them. Some of this RW crap is getting way out or hand.:yoiks:

1. That's terrible, caty
He sounds like one of those RW nuts who don't believe animals have souls.

Your pet memorial sounds like a lovely place to visit them. I'm sure they knew how much you loved them.

Edit: Not you. Them.

You said the dog was in heaven. That's at least part of what they object to.

3. If there is heaven,
wouldn't we like to have our pets there with us?

10. Yes.
Considering the love and devotion they give us, they've earned it. I suspect they get there much more easily than we do.

4. I'd rather be sacrilegious that way
than religious their way. I too have memorials for my dogs that have gone on.

6. What a total idiot!
Tell your husband, from me, that the RW twit was probably just looking for an argument. Perhaps you two should invite the RW twit up to the cabin...

pets hurts. However, as they always say, consider the source and try not to dwell on it much or think about it.

Our pets are part of our family. I still shed a tear for Chesleigh, a dalmation I had to put to sleep at old age some time ago. I get the photos out of him from time to time and think of the many pleasurable times we had together. He was my most loyal friend and I would do the same as you and will always miss him. Also, if that is sacreligious, so be it. From what I have seen of some of these religious idiots out there, I don't want to be like them.

8. Don't let that asshole get to you.
Does he "worship" his mother when he puts flowers on her grave? Damn, even Homo erectus buried their dead with flowers.

9. Following his logic let's throw all dead people
in the woods and feed them to wolves. After all the first commandment says thou shalt have no other gods before me and if going to visit the dead is worship then we wouldn't want to be sacrilegious and offend God.

11. Tell them not to worry, you won't be "worshipping" them after
they die, either.

I think some day people will learn to understand the special place animals have in God's heart, and how much closer most animals are to God.

12. It kills me the way some of these people are good at making
innocent things dangerous and evil.

Like Halloween, Harry Potter, and Homosexuals.

But they miss the really big stuff like torture, pre-emptive war, and treason.

O8) Sounds like you've found a nice way to remember your pets.

13. So, by their logic, visiting a grave is "worship"?
If going to a grave is "worshipping" the deceased, people should really stop putting flowers on the graves of their relatives, wouldn't want to worship any humans now would we?

14. Sheesh.....some people just have NO TACT whatsoever!
I mean, just looking at this from a politeness angle, if this twit really feels that way (and I'm sure he does) the POLITE response would be to say something like, "You and your wife are very tender-hearted people and good to your animals." And then change the subject if he's uncomfortable with the topic!!!

On a personal level, I would want to ask the guy, "How can it be heaven if my beloved pets aren't with me in the great beyond?"

16. Is that what that guy does?
He goes to the cemetary to worship the dead? That's a sacrilege. It breaks the first commandment. Tell him that you guys don't worship the dead, human or otherwise.

17. Some Christians don't like the idea of having their graves visited
I think the general idea is: "I'm dead and gone, my soul is elsewhere, and whatever is in the ground is just so much bones and decaying dirt, so why are you still hanging around here?"

That might be partially where this guy's reaction came from, but I see no shame at all in visiting loved ones' gravesites.
