Mysterious Texas lights draw crowds
MARFA, Texas (AP) — Nevada has Area 51. New Mexico has Roswell. Texas has the Marfa Lights.

Fern Teems points to what she believes may be one of the mystery lights near Marfa, Texas.
Donna McWilliam, AP

Whatever's out there sparkling or dancing across Mitchell Flat and toward the Chinati Mountains has both befuddled people and attracted them to this remote area east of Marfa for well over a century.

They start converging about dusk on a desolate spot in the West Texas desert with a ridge view and an expanse of some 20 miles of treeless rangeland.

A few bring lawn chairs. Some find a spot on concrete picnic tables. Others lean against a brick wall.

With darkness toward to the east and the remnants of a spectacular sunset to the west, the first cries erupt.

"Look! Look!"

2. This sounds like...
the "spooklight" in my home state of Missouri. (yeah, I know...Missouri...but I don't live there anymore, thank goodness)

You drive to this remote area and park your car. After nightfall, this white ball of light can be seen WAAAAAYYY down the road and one can tell it's coming towards you. It gets bigger as it gets closer too. It's weird because it exactly follows the road. When it gets to you, it will rise up over the car, back to the ground and proceed on its way. I've even heard that it will pass right through your windshield, through your car and out the back.

It's the eeriest damned thing I've ever seen!

4. Ah, the Marfa Lights
I read a great article about them in Texas Monthly a few months ago.
