Concerts you wished you'd seen but didn't?
For me, it's gotta be:

The early Misfits w/ Danzig
Black Flag with Keith Morris
Pink Floyd with Syd Barrett

What are yours?

4. Billie Holiday at Carnegie Hall
Or Billie Holiday in a tiny little jazz club...Billie Holiday anywhere for that matter. She is the greatest jazz vocalist that ever lived.
I also wished I had seen Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch...but for totally different (and non-music related) reasons.

6. Jimi Hendrix at Red Rocks Amphitheater
in September 1968. I was just too flat broke. I would have found a way, though, had I known he was going to be dead the next year. I did manage to catch Led Zeppelin at their first US concert in December of that year.

9. this is jealousy.
man...that's when I would've wanted to go see them too, i really enjoy their later performances, it seemed like they were playing the songs faster as they got older.

11. I saw them in 84 or 85, and my assessment matches yours.
They did not let up. This was at the Bayou in Georgetown, DC.

Not long after that, I found myself record shopping next to Joey at the Tower Records near GW. I didn't say anything to him, because I never have anything to say to celebrities I don't know. Still, it was a kick in the pants.

13. Pussy Galore, anywhere, ever
but particularly at DC Space, when both the band and I lived in DC.

I feel stupid to have missed so many opportunities, but I didn't know that I would come to love them so much.

14. Oh, PiL with Wobble and Levene
I had already blown my money on a trip to Seattle to see the (awful) Who "farewell" show at the Kingdome (never will pay for a stadium show again), so couldn't join my friends on the car trip from Montana to Seattle to see this legendary line-up of PiL when they played Seattle (just before Levene and Wobble left and the band went all sucky).

I did get to see the Stranglers, at least, before they started to suck so badly. Unfortunately, I also saw them after they started sucking.

15. Woodstock, day one
Richie Havens' 3-hour set would have been AWESOME.

Also, Hüsker Dü's farewell show at Minneapolis' 1st Ave in 1987 would have kicked ass, too. I almost went, but couldn't get the $$ together at the last minute (I was a broke college freshman at the time).

However, I did get to see My Bloody Valentine on the "Loveless" tour and sat through all 35 minutes of "You Made Me Realise" only 15 feet from the main PA stack. I didn't hear straight for three days afterward.

Interesting you said Syd-era Pink Floyd. I'm been grooving on "Lucifer Sam" the last few days-- it's gone from earworm to obsession.

"That cat's something I can't explain..."

16. I'm a massive Syd fan
My mom is a Floyd fanatic, with imports and rare sessions and all that, and I've been raised on all of it. She especially liked Syd, and I used to listen to his insane solo albums all the time. I found his story to be so tragic...but I still love to listen to him when he was in his prime. :)

17. W O W
That is VERY cool! The closest I ever came with my folks is the Mamas and the Papas for my mom, and Creedence Clearwater Revival for my dad.

Did you see that story about him that was in one of the British dailies back in 2002? It was a profile of "Roger" Barrett, and his life in Cambridge. Apparently some reporter tracked him down and got a few words out of him, but just barely. He's in poor health with a bad peptic ulcer, and spends most of his days painting and gardening.

It's really sad how his talent went to waste. IMHO Floyd never recovered after he left. Sure, they did some great things, but Syd has a charm and humour about him they could never duplicate.

Plus he was a great guitar player, too! :D

I'd give my left arm to be able to go back in time, somehow escape from from family vigilance, and see Goin Home live.
