Going to a wedding where the majority of males at my
table are young Republicans. Just found out today and am a bit concerned. Try as I might I know there is no way I will not hit up the open bar. The question is can I keep my mouth shut or can they for the night. If not where does decorum draw the line? Planning on leaving the soap box at home, but still concerned - even thought the little devil on my shoulder tells me that I will only see a handfull of these people ever again. Any insight or advice?

1. don't let them draw you in
even if politics comes up, be moderate and polite. Do not get heated debates---and no matter what do not lose your temper. This is not your night, and it would be really shitty to spoil it for others because you cannot control your temper

4. Yeah I think even if I have to go hide in a broom closet for the
night, discretion is the better part of valor for this one. My fear is that the Hitler Youth won't leave it alone if it comes up, know what I mean?

2. It won't be easy but don't feed the animals. Indeed,
These animals aren't cute or cuddly. Not in the slightest. Think of them as some Dr Moreau hybrid of a porcupine, armadillo, and skunk.

3. Yeah, just play it as the cards fall. Take the high road first as all of
us good dems do & don't let them drag you into the mud with them.

You sound like you can hold your own so give it to them as they deserve it. It is easy being condescending to a republican and they won't recognize it for a couple of hours anyway and you will be gone by then.

8. Keep the conversation directed away from politics.
Discuss sports, cars, children (if applicable), local activities, etc.

10. Sports are verboten too, they are
Yankees fans at a predominately BoSox wedding

14. Oh my.
Get away from the table as soon as possible and for as long as possible. That table will be itching for an argument, especially since the Sox are kicking the Yankees pretty good these days.

13. Aye there's the rub, it is
one of the wife's best friends getting hitched and she is a bridesmaid and we are all staying in the same hotel. Worse comes to worse, I'll go find a place outside to drink..next to a bush, whiz on it and call it my social commentary.

20. Get a sudden case of the flu and to back to the hotel. Nothing is worth
spending an evening with the brainwashed and braindead.

The bush** administration is responsible for my severely cutting back on the number of people that I'm willing to spend any time around. Because no matter how careful you are, or how you keep your opinions to yourself, I find that they pretty much aren't that smart. They may not come right out and start praising pResident Smirk, but they'll eventually say something that's sure to piss off any human being capable of rational thought.

15. You don't have to spend all evening at that table
I once was stuck at a table from hell. I left until the food came and after it was gone I was gone from that table too. Life is too short to be stuck with idiots at your table at a wedding

17. LynneSin's advice sounds good to me.
Stay at the table only long enough to eat. Then dance the night away!

Hell, I'd rather sit with a bunch of grannies then a bunch of republicans
