Poll question: Palm or PocketPC?
I use both but I'm starting to favor my PocketPC device again.

1. YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE
the number of excellent books I have stuffed into my Palm OS PDA (Sony TH-55). Many are valuable reference books, including an UNABRIDGED dictionry (38MB). The voice recorder and camera may prove useful some time, although I haven't used them yet to any degree. If I didn't already have an iPod knockoff (Samsung YH-920), I'd also be using it for playing MP3 stuff and Audible.com books.

The Palm OS experience is far better the Bill Gates one, and there is so much excellent software available for Palm, including much high quality free stuff. Unfortunately, Bill Gates has set his mind on doing to Palm what he did to DR DOS. Each passing year brings him closer to his goal.

2. Well, I've only owned Palm (Clie), so I can't compare per se
but I like the Palm OS, and it's better than giving Redmond any more of my money. Is it more convenient for you to use the PPC?

4. Linux Is Also an Option

Sharp Zaurus SL-C3000

This is more like a laptop that has been shrunk down to PDA size.
640x480 res, 4 gig microdrive, Linux OS, X and all that.

It is, unfortunately, a Japan-only model, though available gray-market.

One can also install Linux on some of the Windows-CE PDA's.

5. I have one of those, its predecessor: SL-C750
VGA resolution, 400MHz processor, 96mb RAM.

I got mine through an importer called shirtpocket.co.uk about 18 months ago. It doesn't have a microdrive like the recent ones but I've got 2 gigs worth of SD and CF storage in it.

It's the best PDA I've ever had.

8. Form factor looks nice
My problem with PPCs is they are a bit too large for my liking; same thing with the PDA phones. Then again, I want a unipiece phone I can stick in my ear like Uhura's earpiece, and I want my portable computer to be made from e-paper so it can be rolled or folded up.

10. It Has the Smallest Usable Keyboard I have Found
My fingers aren't small enough for the Treo keyboard or those slideout
keyboards that are on the vertical-format PDAs (including older Sharps).
Some of them are missing all the number keys too.

My problem with PPCs is they are a bit too large for my liking;

PPC is a misnomer if it won't fit in a pocket.

same thing with the PDA phones.

I don't much care for the newer ones. They are not flipphones,
so they are bigger than my Kyocera, even if the screen is the same.
A large, exposed screen needs a case to protect it. The tiny keyboard
isn't worth the space it takes up.

I want a unipiece phone I can stick in my ear like Uhura's earpiece,

I don't really like stuff stuck in my ear. Hers never seemed to work
that well either, she seemed to have to cup her hand over it at times to hear. Also, how would you dial on it?

I prefer the 1st-generation Star Trek communicator form
factor for a phone, because it provides more control and display surface
area in a smaller space, and those surfaces are protected when the
flip is closed.

and I want my portable computer to be made from e-paper so it can be rolled or folded up.

We're not quite there yet.

6. Linux Open PDA (Sharp Zaurus C-750)
I also have a HP Jornada 720 which runs Windows CE 2000 Handheld PC. It's the best windows-based PDA I've had because the keyboard is good for word processing, and the interface is a lot like its desktop counterpart.

7. HP iPAQ
I own an iPAQ 4705 Pocket PC. It is one of the most important and useful devices I own, especially in my line of work. Highly recommended.
